About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Neuro MedSurg Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12H Nights Hours per Shift: 36 hours per week Experience: 2 years License: Valid RN License Required Certifications: BLS, NIHSS (in hand at the time of submission) Must-Have: Recent Epic experience, strong Neuro experience, proficiency with G-tubes Description: This position requires disclosure of any background hits at the time of submission. The unit has 20 beds with a nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:5-6 for floor patients. Common diagnoses include Neurosciences, Deep Brain Stimulators, Stroke, Seizures, Surgical/Post-Operative Spines, and Neurological Disorders. Titration of drips is only performed by physician's orders in a step-down setting. There are some protocols that allow for titration, with education provided. Common titratable and set rate drips include Amiodarone, Cardizem, Nitro, Dopamine, Nipride, Ketamine, Lasix, Bumex, and Insulin. Charge Nurse or House Supervisor is available 24/7. Certified Nursing Assistants are present on the unit at a ratio of 1:7-10. Respiratory Therapy is available 24/7, and nurses are not required to have vent experience. Floor vents are typically managed by Respiratory Therapy and physicians. Telemetry is available on the unit; nurses are not required to read strips but must verify that monitor techs have read them. Flexibility is needed for scheduling as three shifts in a row may be allowed but not guaranteed. Weekend night positions consist of Friday/Saturday/Sunday or Saturday/Sunday/Monday shifts. Travelers are expected to work during holiday rotations. Floating may occur to designated areas of the facility if needed. Scrub colors include any combination of white and royal blue. The charting system used is EPIC.
