DIOCESE OF ALLENTOWN – Bethlehem Catholic High School Job Title: Band Director and Music Teacher Job Status: Full Time FLSA: Exempt Reporting Functions: Reports to the School Principal Job Summary: The Band Director/Music Teacher actively instructs students, creates lesson plans, assigns and grades homework, manages students in the classroom, communicates with families, and helps students grow in their music education. Responsibilities Teach at grade levels from Freshmen through Senior. Course load includes band, introduction to music, music theory, and guitar. Host and participate in Partner School Activities and Diocesan band or music events as needed. Maintain appropriate confidentiality regarding school/workplace matters including social media and online platforms. Maintain and engage in professional growth, adhere to professional standards, and demonstrate professional ethics, sound judgment, and leadership. Cooperate and collaborate with other staff members in planning instructional goals, objectives, and methods. Attend all required in‑service training meetings and workshops and participate in faculty meetings. Perform other duties assigned by the Principal, including Christmas and spring concerts, parades and other community events, conducting the marching band at all football games (including playoffs), and a determined number of winter sports season basketball games and wrestling matches. Educational Requirements Bachelor's Degree in music, education, or related field is required. PA teaching certification preferred. Other Requirements Previous experience working with children. Understanding of child development and the skills necessary to relate to the students being taught. The ability to handle classroom situations with fairness and patience. Good writing skills and the ability to communicate effectively with students and teachers. Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality, credibility, integrity, and self‑confidence. Background Check Requirements Clear records of Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Record Check (PATCH), Pennsylvania Child Abuse History, and Federal Bureau of Investigation Criminal Background Fingerprint Check as required under Commonwealth of Pennsylvania's Act 153 of 2014 (No less than 1 year old). Additionally, attendance at the online Protecting God's Children class and Mandated Reporter Training is required. Working Conditions Normal classroom setting, Full‑time, contracted position; 7:35 am – 2:45 pm.
