Position Summary The Director of Board & Executive Administration is responsible for operational and administrative support for the HRC and HRC Foundation Boards including planning, coordination, and execution of all Board and committee meetings -- in-person and virtual -- and for managing all systems, processes, and logistics that support board work. The Director must possess a demonstrated track record of administrative excellence and the creativity to improve effectiveness with forward-looking tools and systems. Reporting to the Deputy Chief of Staff, this role also provides direct administrative support to the Office of the President, including scheduling, travel and expense coordination. The role requires sound judgment, discretion, and strong attention to detail in a fast-paced, high-demand environment. This position is based out of the HRC Headquarters in Washington, DC and will need to be in office 5 days per week. There will be flexibility to work from home up to 1 day per week dependent upon business needs. Position Description Board Administration Lead logistical coordination and execution of Board and committee meetings, including registration, materials preparation, and follow-up tracking. In partnership with the General Counsel’s office, support board governance activities related to agendas, committee support, quorum tracking and minutes management. Drive all Board-related communications including planning, drafting, and editing emails and materials for clarity, tone, and consistency. Manage Board Relations inbox and distribution lists, ensuring timely and accurate responses. Oversee administrative systems and operational maintenance including scheduling, data entry, and management of Board materials. Serve as the organizational lead for the online Board platform HRC uses (OnBoard) and Smartsheets for data management. Plan and execute three in-person Board meetings and events, including full-cycle logistics: Venue sourcing, RFP development, and vendor contracting. Coordination of HRC HQ logistics. Management of hotel room blocks, food & beverage, and audiovisual needs. Maintain and utilize project management tools to track timelines, deliverables, and progress reporting. Help to lead the cross-organizational team that plans two of the in-person meetings ensuring that staff is strategically engaged throughout the planning and execution processes. Supervise temporary staff supporting in-person Board meetings. Board & Office of the President Administration Develop and manage programmatic budget and track expenses including cost center oversight, credit card reconciliation, and event forecasting/reporting. Provide direct administrative support to the Office of the President, including calendar management, scheduling, check requests, and credit card reconciliation/coding and occasional travel logistics. Oversee administrative processes, including contracts, procurement coordination, and expense reporting. Support special projects and perform other duties as assigned. Position Qualifications Minimum of 8 years of experience in executive administration, event planning and logistics, and/or board relations work, preferably within nonprofit or advocacy organizations. Demonstrated experience supporting executive leadership, Boards, or governance structures with a high degree of professionalism and discretion. Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver high-quality work under tight timelines. Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail, particularly in logistics and event planning. Clear and effective written and verbal communication skills, with an ability to tailor messaging to varied audiences. Proven ability to build and maintain trusted relationships across internal teams and external stakeholders. Experience managing budgets, expense tracking, and financial reconciliation. Proficiency with collaboration and project management tools (e.g., Smartsheets, OnBoard, Monday.com or similar platforms). Demonstrated discretion in handling confidential information. A proactive, solutions-oriented approach and commitment to continuous improvement. Passion for LGBTQ+ equality, racial justice and equity, with an understanding of how intersecting identities impact LGBTQ+ individuals and communities. Flexibility with work schedule including evenings and weekends. This position requires potential, overnight, multi-day and/or weekend travel. Travel will be about 10% of the time. All positions at the Human Rights Campaign may require travel on a regular basis or periodically.
