What You Will Do University Marketing and Communications is currently seeking to hire a temporary Social Media Specialist to provide appropriate University social media coverage while we transition responsibilities, determine upcoming needs, and pursue more permanent solutions. This position will work closely with our department to create engaging content, interact with followers, and help grow our online presence. This position is expected to write copy, take photos and video to post timely information across SIUE social platforms: Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, TikTok and Instagram. Other duties as assigned. FLSA: Non-Exempt Minimum Acceptable Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, public relations or a closely related field. 1 or more years of professional experience or internship with the responsibilities of creating and posting social media. About Extra Help Positions Extra Help job listings typically close three days after the opening date, unless specified in the closing date. Extra Help employees are appointed to fulfill casual or emergent needs within the university. The amount of time for which services are needed is not usually predictable and payment for work performed is on an hourly basis and based on actual hours worked. Workdays and hours may vary according to departmental requirements. Extra Help employees do not receive SIUE benefits, holiday pay or paid sick or vacation leave. Extra Help employees are required by State Universities Civil Service System rules to take a 30-calendar-day break after working 900 hours. At the end of the 30 days, you may begin another 900‑hour employment cycle in a new position if available. Working Extra Help will in no way affect any other employment opportunities with SIUE, including your position on and Civil Service register. There is no guarantee that working as Extra Help will lead to or secure permanent employment. Illinois Residency Requirement Pursuant to the State Universities Civil Service System, out-of-state candidates must establish Illinois residency within 180 calendar days of the start date for this position. Illinois residency requires proof of a valid Illinois Driver’s License or state of Illinois ID Card. Failure to produce the required documentation within 180 calendar days will result in immediate termination of employment. Pre- Employment Screening All external candidates who receive a job offer will be required to undergo pre-employment screening for this position. The screening process will encompass a criminal background check and, where applicable, other background checks such as a drug screen, verification of employment and education or licensure/certification, reference checks, and/or checks with relevant government registries.
