FP & A Planning Director

Overview Starr is a global leader in commercial insurance with over a century of experience. Responsibilities Support end‑to‑end planning, budgeting, and regular reforecasting cycles, consolidating inputs and ensuring timelines and data integrity. Coordinate target‑setting processes and develop financial outlooks using analysis of performance drivers and industry trends. Develop, document, and refine allocation processes for expenses and capital; maintain robust, transparent methods aligned with business objectives. Maintain and enhance Anaplan models and related processes; partner with IT COE on development, governance, and user training. Support portfolio optimization, capital allocation, reinsurance structure reviews, and surplus management initiatives through financial analysis and scenario modeling. Assist in developing and maintaining capital models for rating agencies and regulatory requirements. Prepare planning reports, forecasts, presentations, and dashboards for management and board audiences, highlighting assumptions, sensitivities, and risks. Build strong relationships across Finance, Actuarial, Risk, Underwriting, and Reinsurance teams to collect input and socialize results. Recommend and implement changes to improve accuracy, efficiency, and business value in planning, modeling, and reporting processes. Respond to management requests for ad hoc financial analysis, scenario modeling, and support of strategic initiatives. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business, Economics, Actuarial Science, or related field. 2–5 years of financial planning and analysis experience, preferably in the (re)insurance or financial services industry. Experience managing budgeting, forecasting, and target‑setting cycles. Strong knowledge of expense and capital allocation methodologies in insurance. Direct experience with Anaplan (or comparable planning tools); model building experience is an asset. Familiarity with capital modeling for rating agencies and regulatory regimes such as AM Best, S&P, and ORSA frameworks. Advanced analytical and financial modeling skills (Excel, SQL). Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to influence and partner at multiple levels. Project management and process improvement mindset. Preferred Skills Solid understanding of commercial property and casualty insurance operations, reinsurance structures, and financial drivers. Experience supporting strategic planning, capital management, or portfolio optimization initiatives. Proficiency with data visualization tools such as Power BI and reporting best practices. Compensation Estimated salary range for this role is $80,000-$120,000.
