Community Corrections Officer 2 (or CCO1 In‑training) Location: Puyallup, WA Salary: Monthly ranges for CCO1 and CCO2 vary with qualifications, with a minimum starting salary of $5,338/monthly for CCO1. Additional information is provided during the application process. Overview The Community Corrections Officer 2 works full‑time, Monday‑Friday 0800‑1700, at the Puyallup Field Office. The officer supplements public safety by supervising individuals under community supervision, focusing on accountability, intervention, and safe reentry. Responsibilities Supervise criminal individuals (S/Is) under community supervision in accordance with state law. Conduct investigations, searches, issue warrants, and make arrests when required. Complete intake and administrative tasks, including electronic and hard‑copy file management. Administer risk, needs, and substance‑abuse assessments and develop treatment plans. Engage with S/Is using motivational interviewing and effective interventions to encourage positive change. Enforce supervision conditions, present accurate documentation, and provide sanction recommendations to courts and hearings. Collect, process, and maintain evidence and information, ensuring chain of custody and proper storage. Exercise sound judgment in accordance with department policies, including firearm maintenance, control tactics, and safety protocols. Assist with case management, resource referrals, and support services. Perform additional duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Must be able to carry and use a department‑issued firearm. Must possess an unrestricted driver’s license valid in Washington. Must be willing and capable of working with individuals who have criminal backgrounds, including reviewing graphic materials. Must have demonstrated ability in at least three of the following areas: Written communication. Critical thinking and analytical reasoning. Conflict resolution. Situational awareness. Problem solving and organization. Independence and flexibility. Education and experience requirements differ for CCO1 and CCO2 (see below). CCO1 Qualification Pathways High school diploma/GED and at least four years of qualifying experience. Associate or technical degree and two years of qualifying experience. Associate/technical degree with experiential equivalence totaling four years. Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution. CCO2 Qualification Pathways One year experience as a Community Corrections Officer within the Washington State Department of Corrections. Associate or technical degree and three years of qualifying experience. Bachelor’s degree and one year of qualifying experience. Equivalent combination totaling five years of experience/education. Special Requirements and Conditions of Employment Complete a felony disclosure form and background check. Pass a psychological screening (Battery Exam and Psychological Interview/Evaluation). Submit to drug testing as required. Complete all mandatory training, including orientation, annual, and in‑service training. Successfully complete the Firearms Academy and Control/Impedance Tactics (CIT) training and maintain qualifications. What We Offer Paid vacation (14‑25 days per year based on service).
