Community Corrections Officer 3 (CCO3) – INTERNAL Community Corrections Division – Puyallup, WA 98371 Salary Range (WFSE) Monthly: $6,043.00 to $8,123.00 Position Summary Internal appointment for a full‑time, non‑permanent Community Corrections Officer 3 (CCO3) lasting three to four months. Assigned to the Puyallup Field Office, this role serves as a lead CCO by providing training and coaching to other CCOs. Shift hours 0800–1700, Monday–Friday. Responsibilities Supervise individuals who have committed a crime and have been ordered to supervision in the community. Engage with supervised individuals to work toward positive change. Enforce supervision conditions and the law. Lead other Community Corrections Officers. Act as the Unit Duty Officer. Perform other duties as assigned or necessary. Qualifications Armed staff must be able to carry and properly utilize a department‑issued firearm (must maintain qualifications and complete ongoing training). Unrestricted vehicle operator’s license valid in Washington State. Willingness and ability to work with individuals with criminal backgrounds, review graphic materials, and remain objective when dealing with individuals under supervision. Two years as a CCO within the Washington State Department of Corrections. Bachelor’s degree recognized by CHEA/US Department of Education or foreign equivalent plus three years of professional work experience in adult or juvenile corrections, counseling, social work, social service, law enforcement or related field, including at least three of the following: making field visits; preparing written correspondence, reports, or documents; assessing cases and making recommendations; referring people to appropriate resources; presenting cases in court or hearings. Equivalent combination of qualifying experience and education totaling seven years. Stress Tolerance – remain calm and rational while handling difficult situations including crisis or emergency situations. Professional Standards – know and apply relevant law, policy, procedure and practice; adhere to productivity standards and timelines; proactively seek training opportunities. Adaptability – incorporate new information into an existing framework; accept change and support the Agency through changes in law, policy and procedure. Special Requirements and Conditions of Employment Complete a felony disclosure form prior to employment and submit to a criminal background check. Complete and pass the psychological screening (Battery Exam and Psychological Interview/Evaluation). Submit to drug testing in accordance with Collective Bargaining Agreement and agency policy. Successfully complete, within mandated timeframes, employee orientation and all other mandatory annual, in‑service, and other required training. Become familiar and comply with all department policies and procedures and Collective Bargaining Agreements, as applicable. Successfully complete the Firearms Academy and Control/Impedance Tactics (CIT) training, including maintaining eligibility to possess and use a firearm, maintaining CIT qualifications, and completing all requalification training and annual criminal history clearance.
