Accounting - Payroll Specialist

Position Overview

This role is responsible for supporting both core accounting operations and full-cycle payroll processing across multiple employee populations. The position plays a key part in maintaining accurate financial records, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, and supporting timely and accurate payroll administration. Key responsibilities include assisting with general ledger activity, financial reporting, reconciliations, tax-related filings, and payroll processing, including coordination of deductions, garnishments, and system maintenance.

Key Responsibilities

Accounting & Financial Support

• Assist in the preparation and review of daily revenue and billing activity reports
• Maintain and validate daily sales and operational financial data
• Support the preparation of monthly financial statements, including balance sheet, income statement, and cash flow reporting
• Prepare and post recurring journal entries and perform balance sheet reconciliations
• Assist with monthly financial close activities and reporting timelines
• Conduct variance analysis and investigate fluctuations in financial results
• Support budgeting, forecasting, and annual financial planning processes
• Contribute to FP&A initiatives and ad hoc financial analysis projects
• Prepare accruals related to royalties and commission programs and coordinate reporting with external partners as needed
• Support sales tax compliance activities, including preparation of periodic filings
• Assist with 1099/1042 reporting requirements, vendor tracking, and related tax documentation
• Support year-end close activities and provide documentation for external auditors and tax advisors

Payroll Administration

• Process payroll for multiple employee groups, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timeliness
• Support payroll audits, reconciliations, and reporting activities, including benefits-related deductions and tax filings
• Maintain payroll system configurations and ensure alignment between payroll, timekeeping, and accounting systems
• Act as a liaison between payroll systems and internal accounting functions to ensure accurate general ledger mapping
• Maintain payroll procedures, documentation, and training materials
• Respond to employee inquiries related to compensation and payroll matters
• Assist with payroll reporting, projections, and analytical reviews
• Support ongoing improvements to payroll processes and system efficiency

Qualifications

• Associate degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required
• 2+ years of experience in accounting, payroll, or a combined finance role
• Experience working with ERP systems (e.g., NetSuite, SAP, Infor CSI, or similar)
• Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel (advanced level preferred)
• Solid understanding of general ledger processes and accounting principles
• High level of accuracy and attention to detail
• Ability to manage confidential information with discretion
• Strong communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities
