The Oklahoma City VA Health Care System (VISN 19) is seeking a well-qualified full-time BC/BE Physician with innovative leadership skills and good interpersonal skills to join the Oklahoma City VA Health Care System as Chief of Surgery as well as an academic appointment with the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center with qualifications that allow appointment at associate of full professor. The Service Chief will assume clinical and administrative responsibilities and demonstrate positive team spirit. The Physician will be granted clinical privileges as a licensed independent practitioner in the applicable medical specialty. The Chief, Surgical Service reports to and serves as the principle advisor to the Chief of Staff (COS) in all Surgical Service professional, clinical, administrative, and quality performance matters.

Job duties include:

• Monitoring and ensuring that SURGERY Service compliance with agency regulations, medical staff bylaws, facility policies, Joint Commission (JC) standards, and other regulations.
• Overseeing professional and administrative activities within the assigned division including selection, orientation and continuing education of staff in collaboration with other Physician leaders.
• Assisting in coordination of program development to strengthen Surgical Service clinical programs and operational issues; and advise the Chief of Staff about the adequacy and appropriateness of the organization's scope of services and its professional and support staff.
• Assuring that individuals with clinical privileges competently provide service within the scope of privileges granted.
• Recommending appointment and clinical privileges for each member of the division and others requesting privileges within the division.
• Developing and implementing policies and procedures; oversight of administrative and programmatic resources; and monitoring outcomes using data-driven quality assurance processes.
• Utilizing 10% of their time providing clinical services to Veterans within their specialty and privileges. These duties may include clinical appointments, performing procedures, conducting diagnostic evaluations, medication management and consultations.
• Areas of responsibility consist of: Orthopedics, General Surgery, Vascular, Cardiac, Thoracic, Ophthalmology, Optometry, Otorhinolaryngology, Urology, Neurosurgery, Plastic and Reconstructive, gynecology.

Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 7:30am-4:30pm
