PLC Machine Operator- 1st Shift

The PLC Machine Operator - is responsible for operating PLC controlled equipment used in the processing of steel and aluminum products. This includes grinding and polishing steel and aluminum sheets, plates, and billets, as well as Coil Processing including slitting, coil polish, coil buff, and cut to Length (CTL) operations. Roles and Responsibilities Operate PLC controlled machinery using HMIs, push buttons, and established procedures. Perform grinding and polishing of steel and aluminum sheets, plates, and billets, and Coil processing including slitting, coil polish, coil buff, and cut to length. Inspect materials using calipers, micrometers, tape measures, and ultrasonic measuring devices, etc. Handle materials using overhead cranes, gantry cranes, jib cranes, forklifts, sheet lifters, vacuum lifters, and plate handlers (experience a plus). Assist with skid building and packaging of finished materials. Maintain a clean, safe work area and follow all SMP/Ryerson safety requirements. Complete production and quality documentation accurately. All other duties as assigned or duties, responsibilities, and activities may change at any time with or without notice #IND123 Requirements Successfully pass a skills‑based assessment evaluating reading, math, inspection & measurement, attention to detail, and problem‑solving skills. Minimum 2 years of similar job experience preferred. Basic math skills. Basic computer skills and/or comfort using a computer. Physical ability to pass physical requirements exam for vision, hearing, and mobility. Successful candidates will be enrolled in a registered apprenticeship program as part of their onboarding and new hire training.
