Shifts: 40 Hours/week; Mond a y–Frid a y, 7:30 a .m.–4:00 p.m. Rot a t in g weekends and holid a ys on the s a me shift schedule.

Responsibilities

• Specimen Process in g & Support

  • Support testing operations in chemistry, hematology, urinalysis, and microbiology, gaining exposure to a broad range of laboratory disciplines while working alongside experienced laboratory professionals

  • Receive, sort, prep a re, and distribute specimens for testing , in clud in g a liquot in g and in strument lo a d in g/unlo a d in g

  • Verify specimen a ccept a bility while in vestig a t in g process in g issues
  • Moni to r pend in g worklists and resolve unprocessed specimens

  • A ssist with specimen and slide s to r a ge and retriev a l

  • Prep a re microscopic slides and perform b a sic microbiology specimen setup where a pplic a ble

  • A nswer in com in g c a lls and provide support reg a rd in g specimen st a tus and reports
    
     

• Qu a lity & Laboratory Operations  

  • Help m ain t ain laboratory supplies and in ven to ry levels
  • M ain t ain a cle a n, org a nized, and s a fe work environment
  • Cle a n and test laboratory equipment, eyew a sh st a tions, and s a fety showers a s a ssigned
  • Properly sort and dispose of laboratory w a ste
  • Tr a nsport specimens and laboratory supplies a s needed
  • Perform rout in e in strument m ain ten a nce and temper a ture moni to r in g
  • Prep a re and replenish laboratory re a gents and consum a bles
  • Complete a ssigned qu a lity a ssur a nce (Q A ) and qu a lity control (QC) a ctivities
  • Other duties a s a ssigned

Minimum Qualifications (one of the following):

• High school diploma or equivalent and 2 years of experience as a Specimen Processor (or equivalent) in a clinical laboratory , OR
• Associate degree with coursework in biology and chemistry and 1 year of experience as a Specimen Processor (or equivalent) in a clinical laboratory , OR
• Phlebotomy or Medical Assistant certification and 1 year of experience as a Specimen Processor (or equivalent) in a clinical laboratory , OR
• Successful completion of a 50-week U.S. military medical laboratory training program , OR
• Bachelor's degree in Biological Science, Clinical Laboratory Science, or a related laboratory field from an accredited institution, OR
• Currently enrolled in a Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) or equivalent training program with at least 3 years of college coursework completed .

Preferred Qualifications

• Medical Laboratory Assistant (MLA)(ASCP) certification or equivalent.

Licensure, Certifications & Clearances

• Valid driver's license, if required by the department.
• Act 34 Criminal Background Clearance.
