Senior Mechanical Engineer Analyst

JOB DESCRIPTIONAxcelis is seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Analyst to lead advanced multiphysics modeling for semiconductor capital equipment. This role focuses on solving complex, real-world engineering problems in high-vacuum, thermally sensitive, and precision mechanical systems, with a direct impact on product performance, reliability, and cost. The ideal candidate brings strong industry experience, applies first-principles physics to practical design challenges, and uses simulation to drive critical engineering decisions.What you will do: Lead advanced FEA and multiphysics simulations to support design, optimization, and troubleshooting of complex systems.Own analysis activities end-to-end, including model setup, validation, and design recommendations.Perform structural (linear and nonlinear), thermal, vibration, and coupled multiphysics analyses.Translate simulation results into actionable design improvements that enhance performance and reliability.Partner with engineering and process teams to define modeling approaches and validation strategies.Design and support test plans to correlate models with experimental data.Influence product architecture and subsystem design through physics-based insights.Serve as a technical reviewer and subject matter expert for modeling across programs.Establish and promote best practices in simulation, validation, and engineering rigor.Mentor and support engineers in developing modeling skills.Required Qualifications: MS or PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or related field5–15+ years of industry experience in FEA or multiphysics modelingStrong proficiency in Ansys (Mechanical / Workbench required; APDL experience preferred)Proven ability to correlate simulation results with physical testingStrong understanding of fundamental physics and practical engineering applicationsExperience driving design decisions through analysis, not just supporting themExcellent communication skills with ability to present to cross-functional teams and leadership Demonstrated experience in one or more of the following: Nonlinear structural analysis, Thermal and thermomechanical modeling, Vibration or fatigue analysis and/or Coupled multiphysics simulationsPreferred Experience:•Proven ability to correlate simulation results with physical testing•Strong understanding of fundamental physics and practical engineering applications•Experience driving design decisions through analysis, not just supporting them•Excellent communication skills with ability to present to cross-functional teams and leadershipWhy Join Axcelis•Direct influence on next-generation semiconductor equipment•Ownership of high-value modeling work with visible product impact•Exposure to complex, coupled physics problems in real-world systems•Lean, collaborative environment with broader scope than larger competitorsEQUAL OPPORTUNITY STATEMENTIt is the policy of Axcelis to provide equal opportunity in all areas of employment for all persons free from discrimination based on race, sex, religion, age, color, national origin, disability status, medical condition (including pregnancy), veteran status, sexual orientation, marital status, or any other characteristic protected by federal, state or local law.
