Job Description

This contract role offers the opportunity to work as a Cable Technician Foreman on a large, active data center construction project in Iowa. You will support cable installation and management activities, guide and spot other technicians working on eco lifts, and ensure that cable systems are installed safely, accurately, and according to project specifications. The position is fully on-site and involves working primarily indoors on construction sites, assembling cable trays and racks, pulling and dressing cables, and maintaining organized, clearly labeled cable routes between colocation areas.

Responsibilities

• Spot and support other technicians working on eco lifts at heights of approximately 1012 feet, ensuring safe and efficient cable installation.
• Run, pull, and route cables between colocation areas, maintaining proper tension, support, and alignment throughout the cable paths.
• Dress, bundle, and organize cables along cable trays and racks to maintain a clean, professional, and easily maintainable cable infrastructure.
• Manage cable systems by maintaining accurate routing, securing cables to appropriate pathways, and ensuring compliance with project standards.
• Label cables clearly and consistently so that circuits and connections are easy to identify, trace, and troubleshoot.
• Work from ground level and eco lifts as needed to complete cable installation and maintenance tasks safely and efficiently.
• Follow construction blueprints and project drawings to assemble trays and racks, lay out wire paths, and implement the planned cable design.
• Use mechanical aptitude to understand how components fit together, visualize the completed installation, and plan the steps required to reach the final result.
• Operate effectively on an active construction site, remaining aware of moving equipment, other trades, and potential hazards.
• Adhere to all site safety requirements, including the use of personal protective equipment and safe work practices at heights and in confined spaces.
• Collaborate with team members as a reliable team player, communicating clearly and professionally to coordinate tasks and resolve issues.
• Apply problem-solving and critical thinking skills to address installation challenges, identify process improvements, and support project quality.
• Interpret blueprints and project documents, including specifications, reporting requirements, and quality standards, or demonstrate the ability to learn these skills.
• Maintain regular, reliable attendance and complete assigned shifts and overtime as required by project demands.
• Work in both indoor and outdoor construction environments as needed, including walking between colocation areas within the site.
• Lift and move materials and equipment, including the ability to lift up to 50 pounds and move up to 75 pounds safely.
• Distinguish different cable colors, read small print on labels and drawings, and recognize audible signals such as dial tones relevant to cable work.
• Travel within the branch or regional territory as needed to support project activities.
• Contribute to the development and implementation of project process improvements by providing feedback and supporting new procedures.

Essential Skills

• At least 6 months of hands-on work experience in cabling, construction, installation, or industrial assembly.
• 6 months to 1 year of construction site experience in any trade, with a general understanding of construction site practices and safety.
• 6 months to 1 year of mechanical aptitude, such as working on vehicles, assembling computers, wiring electrical components, or building models.
• Ability to follow and work from construction blueprints to assemble trays, racks, and lay out wire paths.
• Ability to work safely at heights, including on eco lifts approximately 1012 feet in the air.
• Ability to work in confined spaces when required by the project.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and move up to 75 pounds as part of daily duties.
• Ability to see and distinguish different colors for cable identification and labeling.
• Ability to read small print on labels, drawings, and project documents.
• Ability to hear and recognize audible signals such as dial tones related to cable testing and systems.
• Proven problem-solving and critical thinking skills applicable to construction and cable installation work.
• Ability to effectively read, write, and deliver oral presentations when needed for reporting or coordination.
• Self-motivated and positive approach to work, with a professional demeanor on active construction sites.
• Ability to maintain regular attendance and work full shifts plus overtime as required.
• Ability to travel within the branch or regional territory as needed for project work.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Prior experience with cable installation, cable management, and wiring (including CAT5 and CAT6) is preferred but not required.
• Experience working on large, active construction sites or data center projects is beneficial.
• Familiarity with electrical work, maintenance technician duties, or industrial assembly is an advantage.
• Experience assembling cable trays, racks, and similar infrastructure components is helpful.
• Ability to interpret project specifications, reporting requirements, and quality standards, or willingness to learn.
• Strong attention to detail to ensure neat cable dressing, accurate labeling, and adherence to plans.
• Effective communication skills for coordinating with team members and other trades on site.
• Team-oriented mindset with the ability to collaborate and support others in a fast-paced environment.

Work Environment

The job is approximately 90% inside, with limited exposure to outdoor conditions mainly when walking between colocation areas. You will typically work five 10-hour shifts per week, with schedules commonly running from early morning to late afternoon and totaling around 50 hours per week, including potential overtime. Hours and specific shift times may change based on project demands. The work environment includes extensive construction activity, large equipment moving throughout the site, and multiple trades working simultaneously, which requires strong situational awareness and adherence to safety protocols. All workers must wear steel-toed work boots and are encouraged to invest in comfortable footwear due to spending most of the day on their feet. The dress code includes a clean pair of jeans and a work-appropriate shirt. The client provides a high-visibility vest, hearing protection, and work gloves to support safe and compliant work practices in this demanding, high-activity setting.

This is a Contract position based out of Cedar Rapids, IA.

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $40.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
