Job Description Summary: Under the medical direction or supervision of an Anesthesiologist, the Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) administers general and regional anesthesia for all types of surgical, obstetrical, and other procedures that require anesthesia services, to patients including adolescent, adult, and geriatric age groups in accordance w/ hospital and departmental standards of care. Such intervention may include but is not limited to airway management; maintenance of fluid balance; homeostasis; monitoring; response to emergencies related to airway management and cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Responsibilities And Duties: Assists with the performance of and documenting a pre-anesthetic assessment and evaluation of the patient including requesting consultations and diagnostic studies, selecting, obtaining, and administering pre-anesthetic medications and fluids and obtaining informed consent for anesthesia.
Assists with development and implementation of an anesthetic care plan. Initiating, under the medical direction of the supervising anesthesiologist, the anesthetic technique which may include general, regional, local and sedation.
Assists with application and insertion of appropriate non-invasive and invasive monitoring modalities for continuous evaluation of the patient's physical status. Administers anesthetics, adjuvant and accessory drugs and fluids necessary to manage the anesthetic under the medical direction of the supervising anesthesiologist. Manages a patient's airway and pulmonary function under the medical direction of the supervising anesthesiologist. Facilitates emergence and recovery from anesthesia by selecting, obtaining, and administering medications, fluids, and ventilator support under the medical direction of the supervising anesthesiologist.
Assists with post-anesthesia care and providing post-anesthesia follow up evaluation and care under the medical direction of the supervising anesthesiologist. Implements acute and chronic pain management modalities under the medical direction of the supervising anesthesiologist.
Assists with response to emergencies by providing airway management, administration of emergency fluids and drugs and using basic or advanced cardiac life support techniques. Assists with the initiation and management of regional anesthetics including labor epidurals under the medical direction of the supervising anesthesiologist.
Completes transfer of patient's care to other qualified anesthesia providers in a manner which assures safety and continuity of care. Ensures care is transferred to non-anesthesia personnel such as post anesthesia care nursing or other intensive care units in a manner which assures continuity of care and transfer of all pertinent clinical information.
Complete accurate and timely documentation of all appropriate and pertinent information in the medical record. Completes accurate documentation of all information necessary to ensure accurate billing and compliance with established state and federal billing practices. Undertakes precautions to minimize risk of infection to the patient, self, and other healthcare providers.
Adheres to all established safety precautions to minimize the risks of fire, explosion, equipment malfunction and electrical shock. Performance and documentation of all indicated machines and equipment checks to ensure equipment readiness, function, availability, and cleanliness as indicated and in accordance with established departmental and hospital policies. Assists with and ongoing assessment of patient positioning.
The supervising physician is responsible for the quality and appropriateness of care provided by the CRNA. The CRNA will document all care in the chart as appropriate exams, procedures, progress notes, labor record, anesthesia record, etc.
Assists with data collection, reporting, committee meetings, compliance documentation and process oversight in quality and risk management issues as directed.
Participates in and attendance at mandatory departmental and other CRNA staff meetings. Participates with departmental training and educational initiatives. Participates with other committees and interdepartmental activities as directed. As a High Reliability Organization (HRO), responsibilities require focus on safety, quality and efficiency in performing job duties.

Trauma center or experience in high acuity setting preferred.
Licensed by the State of Ohio as a registered nurse. Registered as a CRNA with the state Board of Nursing. Training program is at least 18 months post RN. Demonstrates competency in airway management and intubation. Must be familiar with anesthesia related equipment including but not limited to anesthesia machines, EKG monitors, scenography monitors, oximetry monitors. Continuing units related to anesthesia of 40 CEU s every 2 years. ACLS Certification Insurance requirements are identical to those of the attending anesthesiologist. Work Shift:
