About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Med/Surg Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12H Nights Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: Minimum of 2 years in acute care License: LA License Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have: Traveler will be required to pass an EKG competency exam as part of compliance prior to arrival. Skills in wound management, JP drains, wound vacs, hemodialysis catheter care, fistulas, PCA, pain management, and cardiac rhythm interpretation are required. Description: This position involves caring for postoperative patients with a heavy focus on urology. Common procedures include robotic radical and simple prostatectomies, partial cystectomies, partial nephrectomies, open radical nephrectomies, and nephroureterectomies. There are many educational opportunities available for travelers in this area. Medical/surgical overflow may include cases such as sepsis, cellulitis, DVT/PE, CHF, COPD, COVID, and pneumonia. Occasionally, total joints (knees, hips, shoulders) and GI/abdominal surgeries may be seen. Patient ratios for RNs are typically 1:5-6; night shifts may have a ratio of 1:6. For CNAs, the ratio is 3 per shift unless the census does not call for it, potentially increasing to 1:10 at full capacity. There is a charge nurse typically free floating. Phlebotomy services are available in-house. RNs can draw CVL/PICC/midline IVs. An IV/VAT team is available from 7 AM to 3 PM for PICC placement. Respiratory therapy is available in-house. Most patients are supported by a hospitalist present in the facility. Travelers may float to any medical/surgical area within the organization. Weekend rotation is every other week. Staff will work 4 days one week and 3 days the next week as part of the scheduling requirement. Requests for time off should not exceed 7 days, with extended adjustments required. Only one weekend request for time off is allowed per contract. There are holiday expectations to work 2 out of 3 holidays. Scrub color is pewter. T-shirts must be gray, white, or black with a monogram. Jackets must be gray or black. Badges must be worn above the waist and in full view at all times.
