Student Life Coordinator
Telos
Student Life Coordinator
The Student Life Coordinator is responsible for supporting the quality, consistency, structure, and culture of the residential student experience at Telos. The Student Life Coordinator ensures that students have a safe, therapeutic, engaging, developmentally appropriate, and well-organized residential environment where daily routines, activities, life skills, recreation, and community expectations are consistently carried out in a manner integral to the values and culture of Telos.
The Student Life Coordinator works closely with the Residential Director, Staff Manager, Shift Supervisors, Clinical, Nursing, Education, Life Skills Coach, and other departments to ensure that residential programming supports student treatment goals while maintaining appropriate structure, engagement, accountability, and opportunities for growth.
This position serves as a point of coordination for the day-to-day student experience both within and outside the Residential Department. The role maintains an active presence within the residential program and is accountable for identifying concerns related to student engagement, programming, routines, culture, environment, and execution before they negatively impact student care or program stability.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Supporting a residential culture of safety, accountability, belonging, growth, healthy relationships, and meaningful student engagement consistent with Telos values and cultural pillars
- Establishing clear communication regarding student programming, routines, activities, expectations, restrictions, and other student-life needs between residential leadership, Shift Supervisors, direct-care employees, and collaborating departments
- Ensuring relevant student restrictions, safety considerations, behavioral plans, and eligibility requirements are appropriately reviewed and incorporated into activities, outings, and tours
- Creating, maintaining, and proactively managing the residential student-life calendar, including evening programming, weekend activities, recreation, outings, special events, holidays, life-skills opportunities, and other residential programming
- Ensuring scheduled activities, routines, and residential programming are consistently carried out as intended and identifying recurring barriers that prevent successful execution
- Planning activities and outings in advance and ensuring necessary transportation, reservations, supplies, student eligibility, restrictions, approvals, staffing requirements, and other operational needs are identified prior to implementation
- Coordinating with the Staff Manager regarding staffing needs associated with outings, activities, special events, and changes to the residential schedule
- Coordinating and conducting tours of residential facilities and student-life programming for parents, guardians, prospective students, prospective families, executive directors, referral partners, visitors, and other approved guests
- Preparing for tours by ensuring residential environments, common areas, activity spaces, and relevant materials are clean, organized, presentable, and consistent with Telos standards
- Maintaining regular presence on the residential floor to observe student engagement, residential culture, environmental conditions, program execution, and the effectiveness of established routines and activities
- Supporting Shift Supervisors in understanding and executing student-life expectations, including daily routines, activities, chores, hygiene, meals, recreation, student responsibilities, and other residential expectations
- Following up with Shift Supervisors when established student programming, notes, routines, or expectations are not completed and identifying barriers requiring additional support or correction from Staff Managers
- Developing and maintaining consistent residential training for routines and systems so the quality of the student experience does not depend on which employees or Shift Supervisors are working a particular shift
- Developing meaningful opportunities for recreation, physical activity, creativity, social connection, community involvement, and healthy leisure
- Collaborating with Student Life Skills Coaches in supporting life-skills programming that promotes independence, personal responsibility, organization, household skills, healthy relationships, communication, decision-making, and preparation for life beyond treatment
- Collaborating with Student Leadership team in developing appropriate student leadership opportunities that provide students with meaningful responsibility, mentorship, service, community involvement, and opportunities to positively influence residential culture
- Monitoring student participation and engagement in residential programming and identifying patterns of excessive unstructured time, disengagement, repeated refusal, or programming that is not effectively meeting student needs
- Seeking appropriate feedback from students, Shift Supervisors, direct-care staff, families, visitors, and other departments regarding residential programming and using that feedback to improve the student experience
- Maintaining expectations for the cleanliness, organization, appearance, and functionality of residential environments and ensuring identified concerns are appropriately assigned and followed through to resolution
- Conducting routine observation and review of residential environments, programming, and student routines to identify gaps between established expectations and actual practice
- Working collaboratively with Clinical to ensure residential programming supports treatment goals while maintaining appropriate boundaries between clinical treatment responsibilities and residential operations
- Working collaboratively with Nursing, Education, Life Skills, and other departments to coordinate student schedules, medical needs, appointments, academic responsibilities, restrictions, and other factors affecting residential programming
- Supporting consistent communication between shifts regarding changes to student routines, activities, restrictions, responsibilities, visitors, and other information necessary for safe and effective program execution
- Reviewing student-life concerns, grievances, and identifying whether problems are related to programming, communication, training, accountability, resources, or systems and recommending appropriate solutions
- Monitoring Student Life spending, activity expenses, supplies, and other program resources and supporting responsible use of approved Residential budgets
- Maintaining appropriate activity materials, supplies, calendars, planning resources, and other tools necessary for Shift Supervisors and residential staff to successfully execute programming and tours
- Supporting the Residential Director with program development, student culture initiatives, residential improvement projects, special events, tours, and other student-life priorities
- Participating in residential leadership meetings, treatment-related meetings as appropriate, and other required meetings or conferences
- Completing accurate and timely administrative documentation associated with audits, groups, activities, outings, student programming, tours, residential operations, budgets, incidents, and other assigned responsibilities
- Collaborating with the rest of the Residential Leadership Team when needed, including identifying program needs, participating in interviews, and providing input regarding candidate qualifications and fit for residential student-life responsibilities
- Maintaining confidentiality and professional boundaries while working with students, families, employees, prospective students, executive directors, referral partners, visitors, and other departments
- Coordinate room assignments for students
