Job Summary $5,000 Sign-On Bonus! Location: Hospital – OB/New Beginnings. 60 h/week night shift with weekend, on‑call, and holiday rotations. Provide family‑centered nursing care and education to antepartum, laboring, postpartum, maternal‑newborn couplets and special‑care nursery patients/families. Conduct perinatal and follow‑up testing and visits. Directly supervise nursing assistants and unit secretary. Interpret fetal monitoring and assist with basic resuscitative care for newborns in the delivery room. Perform technical responsibilities including computer, mobilab, and hearing screen. Duties and Responsibilities Use only approved abbreviations. Understand patient safety goals and actions taken. Use two patient identifiers before giving treatments and demonstrate the process. Understand read‑back of verbal orders/critical lab values and can state the process. Clarify physician orders as required. Use standing orders when indicated. Accurately call reports to MD as warranted and report to other providers as needed. Report sentinel events or adverse drug reactions or incidents as warranted. Use final verification before invasive procedures and verbalize the correct process and document in EHR. Reassess patients in response to changes in condition after intervention as needed and document in EHR. Communicate with and provide education to patients, caregivers, and family members timely and with respect and dignity in death and dying situations; document in EHR. Document fetal heart interpretation accurately and timely. Provide and document patient and family teaching from admission through discharge each shift. Practice family‑centered, couplet care; include family in care and teaching and avoid separating mother and baby unless medically necessary. Complete assessments timely and thoroughly. Communicate variance/problem focus and take appropriate interventions. Initiate, individualize, and update care plans. Participate in follow‑up calls, newborn visits, and pre‑admission phone calls. Participate in outpatient visits, NST, OB checks, and injections. If triage nurse, serve as unit lead, manage unexpected influx of patients and nurse assignments, communicate with MMH SPV, and lead resuscitations. Follow protocol for Pitocin drip administration. Follow standard of practice for pain management. Appropriately document medication administration on eMAR using BMV. Clarify orders with MD as needed. Administer medications promptly. Perform 3‑minute hand scrub each shift. Enforce visitation guidelines per policy. Perform responsibilities during Code Pink drills. Complete critiques for emergency c‑sections, resuscitations, and transfers. Maintain and troubleshoot equipment; report problems. Attend monthly unit meetings and review minutes; attend mandatory in‑services and meetings. Stay current with fetal monitoring seminars as required. Complete monthly competency articles and tests. Takes initiative to increase knowledge and skills through reading, practicing with equipment, and researching unfamiliar diagnoses, treatments, and medications. Maintain current Neonatal Resuscitation certification. Maintain current mock code certification. Complete projects and assignments accurately and timely; stay productive during downtime. Verify, acknowledge, and sign off on orders promptly and accurately. Document in real time at point of contact in patient room. Notify physicians of non‑reassuring fetal heart tracing, variances, and changes in status promptly and accurately. Ensure verbal/telephone orders are written, read back, and clarified. Communicate pertinent information with manager timely. Function as part of a multidisciplinary team. Navigate efficiently through EHR to locate needed patient information. Required Skills and Abilities Strong customer service skills. Effective verbal and written communication. Ability to multi‑task, prioritize, interpret, and be assertive when necessary. Ability to perform basic nursing skills. Proficiency with medical equipment such as vital signs machines, fetal monitors, and radiant warmers.
