Labor & Employment Special Counsel

Excited to share this role with one of my favorite clients. They are looking for a talented attorney to join their Labor & Employment group as Special Counsel (not partner track).

This role is open because an attorney is moving in-house with a current client. They're happy for the lawyer, but need to back-fill ASAP.

\n

\n

They're open to hours flexibility for the right person, and also flexible about resume gaps.

\n

\n

I've worked with several attorneys to get offers from this firm, and it has been universally loved by all of them.

\n

\n

What you'd be doing:

\n

\n
• Advising employers on everyday and not-so-everyday workplace issues: wage-and-hour, leave, discrimination and retaliation claims, hiring and firing, reductions in force, employee privacy, and the employment wrinkles that come with federal contracting
\n
• Drafting and negotiating employment agreements, NDAs, separation agreements, IP assignments, and workplace policies
\n
• Running internal investigations and handling the pre-litigation work: demand letters, non-competes, trade secrets, and restrictive covenants
\n
• Defending single-plaintiff cases and litigating workplace contract and related IP disputes
\n
• Some general business and compliance counseling beyond straight employment work
\n

Who they're looking for:

\n

\n
• 6+ years of employment experience, with a mix of counseling, negotiating, and litigation. You don't need all of the above, but you should be strong in a few areas.
\n
• Training at a well-known labor and employment shop or group is a plus.
\n
• Strong academics, a great writer, detail-oriented, and calm when three deadlines hit on the same day.
\n
• Based in DC, or willing to be.
\n

The details:

• Special Counsel title, not partner track. This is a great fit for someone who wants excellent work without the pressure to build a book.
\n
• 1,800 billable hours for a full-time schedule, but a reduced schedule may be possible for the right candidate.
\n
• A gap on your resume is fine. If you took time away for family, caregiving, or anything else, I'd love to hear from you.
\n
• Base salary in the high $200s
\n
