What we're looking for:

The Sr. Mechanical Design Engineer will maintain responsibility for the design and development of powered orthotics for the MyoPro Product Line. This ideal candidate will bring a fundamental understanding of mechatronics, along with experience bringing products from early concept development through to commercialization.


Keys to success will be the ability to work effectively both collaboratively and as an individual contributor, along with strong communication skills, diligence, and attention to detail balanced with productivity-orientation.


How you'll drive impact:

• Lead subsystem design and continual improvement of Myomo's robotic exoskeletons, enabling users to regain arm and hand function.
• Make key contributions to mechanical and electromechanical subsystems from concept through production, balancing performance, cost, and reliability.
• Develop detailed CAD assemblies and drawings in SolidWorks to transition early-stage concepts into manufacturable designs.
• Interact with suppliers to obtain quotes and assess component manufacturability from a wide variety of sources, including CNC machining, sheet metal, textiles, and injection molding.
• Collaborate with electrical & controls engineers to develop high-performance portable sensing and
  actuation systems.
• Construct prototypes, critically evaluating performance using numerical and qualitative techniques.
• Perform drafting, tolerancing, and DFM for low-mid volume manufacture.
• Mentor junior engineers as needed.

What you'll bring:

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering.
• 7+ years' professional years' experience including mechanical design ownership from concept through production.
• Strong knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T), design for manufacturability (DFM), and related mechanical-engineering best practices.
• Hands-on experience with rapid prototyping and at least one relevant production process, such as CNC machining, injection molding, sheet-metal fabrication, or production-grade additive manufacturing.
• Comfort in a fast-paced environment, with the ability to prioritize and adapt when needed.
• Ability to meet deadlines with specified time constraints, with flexibility to both work well independently and in a team environment.
• Excellent written/verbal, interpersonal, and organizational skills with attention to detail.
• Experience working in a regulated or safety-critical industry, such as medical devices, aerospace, aviation, or automotive. Medical-device experience is strongly preferred.

Domain Focus: Successful candidates will bring demonstrated depth in at least one of the following areas.

• Human-centered mechanical product design, industrial design, or electromechanical product integration; (emphasizing wearability, user experience, fit, and ergonomics)
• Parametric CAD design and development of scalable, configurable models supporting patient-specific customization;
• Integration of mechanical designs with actuators, sensors, motors, transmissions, or compact electronic systems. (Emphasizing mechatronic architecture and power transmission)
