Mercy Clinic Ladue Pediatrics is seeking an experienced and patient-focused Medical Assistant to join our team. This role is ideal for a compassionate professional who enjoys working with children and families while supporting providers in delivering outstanding pediatric care.As a Medical Assistant, you will assist physicians and office staff with patient care activities consistent with established standards of practice while embodying Mercy's mission of caring for the sick and suffering, respecting human life and dignity, and providing care with kindness, professionalism, and integrity.Position OverviewThe Medical Assistant is responsible for supporting clinical and administrative operations of the pediatric practice. This role works closely with physicians, providers, patients, and families to ensure a positive and efficient care experience.Key ResponsibilitiesWelcome and room pediatric patients while creating a friendly, comforting environment for children and families.Obtain and document vital signs and patient information.Collect and update medical, surgical, and medication histories.Prepare patients for examinations and assist providers during exams and procedures.Perform basic diagnostic testing, including urine dipsticks, glucose testing, and EKGs as appropriate.Accurately document patient care in the electronic health record.Reinforce patient education provided by the physician or nurse.Maintain exam room cleanliness, organization, and supply inventory.Coordinate specialist referrals, follow-up appointments, and diagnostic testing.Complete insurance precertifications and prior authorizations.Assist with referral management and care coordination.Support front office functions including phone calls, patient check-in/check-out, scanning, and document management.Participate in quality improvement initiatives and staff meetings.Adhere to infection prevention, patient safety, and regulatory requirements.Complete competency reviews for other Medical Assistants when needed and appropriate.Perform additional duties within the Medical Assistant scope of practice as assigned.QualificationsRequired EducationHigh School Diploma or equivalent.New hires must successfully complete Mercy MA Clinic Academy training.Current Medical Assistants advancing to the Advanced Certified Medical Assistant role must complete required MA competencies.Preferred QualificationsOne year of patient care experience in an outpatient or ambulatory care setting.Basic Life Support (BLS) certification preferred.Medical Assistant certification preferredSkills and AttributesExcellent communication and interpersonal skills.Ability to build rapport with pediatric patients and families.Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.Proficiency with electronic health record (EHR) systems and clinical documentation.Knowledge of outpatient clinical procedures and equipment.Commitment to patient-centered care and continuous professional growth.Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced clinical environment.Understanding of diverse patient populations and family needs.Work Environment & Physical RequirementsOutpatient pediatric clinic setting with frequent patient interaction.Regular standing, walking, and movement throughout the day.Ability to push, pull, and/or lift up to 50 pounds.Frequent bending, reaching, kneeling, twisting, and squatting.Potential exposure to infectious materials; appropriate PPE is provided.Why Mercy?At Mercy, we are committed to creating a supportive environment where coworkers can grow professionally while making a meaningful impact on the lives of patients and families.
