Electrical Estimator

Employee Type Exempt - Full Time A-1 Electrical Contractors, Inc. is expanding its pre-construction team and is seeking an Electrical Estimator to independently prepare, manage, and coordinate accurate cost estimates for small- and large-scale commercial projects under the direction of the Chief Estimator. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Cost Estimating: Prepare detailed and accurate labor and material cost estimates for commercial electrical projects, and complete a full on-screen electrical material take-off of the bid documents in ProEst. Bid Setup and Systems: Set up project files using the standard Bid Folder Template, generate the quote number in Acumatica and build the estimate in ProEst under that reference, use the ProEst Keyword Index to verify items, assemblies, and labor and material values, and import ProEst data back into Acumatica. Estimate Review Packet: Create and maintain the project Estimate Review Packet as a living document, capturing scope decisions, assumptions, clarifications, exclusions, vendor coverage, and risk items. Document Analysis: Analyze blueprints, specifications, and related documentation to develop time, cost, material, and labor estimates, and compare subcontractor and supplier proposals for scope and price. Bid Submissions and Deadlines: Prepare bid submissions, proposal letters, and presentations; track bid due dates, walk-throughs, meeting schedules, and addendum changes; and follow up on proposals sent to clients. Coordination and Relationships: Collaborate with project managers and engineers on project scope, develop relationships with clients, subcontractors, and suppliers, communicate project details with the Chief Estimator prior to deadlines, and support the transition of awarded projects to construction. Cost Control: Identify potential cost-saving opportunities within project estimates, and track project budgets and expenditures throughout the lifecycle of the project. Perform additional duties as assigned, which may include business development and marketing functions. REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS Certificate of Completion from an accredited electrical apprenticeship program or equivalent , or 3+ years of construction-related experience in lieu of it. High school diploma or equivalent required. 2 years of electrical estimating experience, with knowledge of electrical methods, best practices, and safety standards, and the ability to read construction documents and blueprints. Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs and with on-screen estimating and takeoff software, primarily ProEst (experience with Accubid a plus). Strong mathematical and estimating skills, and the ability to independently manage multiple estimates and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Highly organized and detail-oriented. Excellent phone etiquette and customer service skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively with team members, management, and clients while adhering to company policies. Must comply with a criminal background check and drug test. Preferred: Associate degree in Electrical Technology or related field, and 4+ years of industry experience in electrical construction. 4+ years of construction-related experience may substitute for a 4-year degree. POSITION AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Primarily office-based (80%) with occasional site visits (20%). Regular attendance is an essential function. Regularly requires sitting and viewing a computer monitor for extended periods, standing, walking, and using hands/arms. Ability to work in varied environments, including exposure to outdoor elements, construction sites, and equipment noise and vibration.
