Job Overview This role is responsible for general accounting operations and control company financial transactions, which includes reconciling account balances and bank statements, maintaining the general ledger, preparing month‑end, quarter‑end, and/or year‑end close procedures, and ensuring accuracy and effectiveness in all company accounting tasks. Core Responsibilities Perform timely and accurate month‑end closing activities, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and variance analysis. Ensure the integrity of accounting information by recording, verifying, and consolidating transactions. Prepare and maintain reconciliations for balance sheet accounts and other general ledger accounts. Support internal and external audits. Support Project Setup and Maintenance in the accounting system. Support Billing. Research proper accounting treatments for certain transactions as needed. Troubleshoot recurring process issues, determining root causes and driving solutions. Ensure compliance with policies and procedures, including Sarbanes‑Oxley. Assist with special projects as needed. Maintain professional demeanor and behavior at all times in all forms of communication. Perform other duties as assigned by manager. Levels and Responsibilities LevelIII Execute core tasks and responsibilities with minimal supervision. Manage the Accounting group email inbox and respond to inquiries. Responsible for Project Setup and Maintenance in the accounting system. Responsible for Billing. LevelIV Lead the execution of core tasks and responsibilities without close supervision and some latitude for independent judgment. Manage the Accounting group email inbox and respond to inquiries. Responsible for Project Setup and Maintenance in the accounting system. Responsible for Billing. Provide feedback and guidance to more junior team members. LevelV Lead the execution of core tasks and responsibilities without close supervision and extensive latitude for independent judgment. Lead the monthly and quarterly financial close process, ensuring all costs are properly recorded and reviewing journal entries. Review and analyze financial statements to ensure accuracy and completeness. Lead and collaborate with financial teams for timely closing and reporting at year‑end. Lead the billing and project setup functions. Lead all financial audits by serving as a point of contact for internal and external audit teams. Manage information requests by auditors during SOX audits. Lead monthly sales and use tax reporting and support other tax reporting requirements. Assist in the development and maintenance of accounting policy and procedures for key close transactions. Identify opportunities and implement process improvement and automation. Provide feedback and guidance to junior team members and serve as a mentor. Share knowledge related to industry best practices and standards with others across the department/division. LevelVI Performs all duties of LevelV and further identifies opportunities to implement process improvement and automation. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in accounting from an accredited institution. Previous direct accounting experience may be in lieu of an accounting degree. Knowledge of U.S. GAAP and SOX internal controls. Basic level knowledge in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook) with a focus on Excel. LevelIII Qualifications Typically five years of experience in an accounting role. In lieu of a bachelor’s degree in accounting, ten plus years of accounting experience, with a minimum of two years in government contracting. Intermediate level knowledge in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook) with a focus on Excel. Familiarity with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems (e.g. Deltek Costpoint, Unanet, Jamis). Thorough understanding of monthly financial statements with general ledger reconciliation skills. LevelIV Qualifications Typically ten years of experience in an accounting role, with a minimum of two years in government contracting. Intermediate level knowledge in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook) with a focus on Excel. Working experience with ERP systems (e.g. Deltek Costpoint, Unanet, Jamis). Knowledge of GAAP and other relevant accounting standards. Thorough understanding of monthly financial statements with general ledger reconciliation skills. LevelV Qualifications Certified Public Accountant (CPA) is required. Typically fifteen years of experience in an accounting role, with a minimum of five years in government contracting. Extended experience with ERP systems (e.g. Deltek Costpoint, Unanet, Jamis). Strong knowledge of GAAP and other relevant accounting standards. Thorough understanding of monthly financial statements with general ledger reconciliation skills. LevelVI Qualifications Certified Public Accountant (CPA) is required. Typically twenty years of experience in an accounting role, with a minimum of five years in government contracting. Experience using Deltek Costpoint. Expert level knowledge of GAAP and other relevant accounting standards. Expert level knowledge and understanding of monthly financial statements with general ledger reconciliation skills.
