Registered Nurse (RN) | Cancer Institute Laboratory

Position Summary Location: Avera McKennan Hospital (Prairie Center, serving the Avera Cancer Institute clinic). Regular work, day shift from 7:30 am to 4:00 pm, Monday through Friday. The location is closed on weekends and holidays. Pay range: $27.75 – $41.25 per hour, actual rate depends on experience. Position highlights include eligibility for a $3000 sign‑on bonus. Responsibilities Collect venous and central lab specimen collections for the oncology patient population. Provide front‑line evaluation of patient condition, notifying appropriate clinicians of any variance in a timely manner. Review physician prescriptions, communicate the nursing care plan and all pertinent information to other members of the health‑care team. Coordinate with other health‑care providers; provide physical, emotional, psychological, and spiritual support to patients, families, and friends. Develop nursing care plans by obtaining medical histories, examining patients, documenting patient status, and establishing nursing diagnoses and interventions. Teach patient‑care requirements, instruct patients and families to understand condition, medications, and self‑care skills, and answer questions. Evaluate patient care against therapeutic standards, review records, and modify the care plan as needed. Maintain a safe, secure, and healthy patient care environment by adhering to infection‑control policies, medication administration and storage procedures, and controlled substance regulations. Chart patient care services in patient and department records. Mantain patient‑care equipment and supplies, troubleshooting breakdowns, performing preventive maintenance, and ordering supplies. Maintain competence in nursing capabilities outlined by leadership. Qualifications & Experience High School or GED equivalent. Registered Nurse (RN) – Board of Nursing, active license in the state of practice. Associate’s degree preferred; 1–3 years of experience working in a clinical environment preferred. Ability to work the specified hours, perform essential job functions with adequate visual acuity, and communicate effectively.
