ABOUT THE ROLE

An established and growing manufacturer is seeking an experienced Automation Maintenance Technician to support highly automated manufacturing and packaging operations. This position plays a critical role in maintaining production uptime through advanced troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, equipment optimization, and continuous improvement.

The ideal candidate enjoys solving complex equipment issues, working with automated production systems, and partnering with operations to maximize equipment reliability, efficiency, and overall plant performance.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Equipment Maintenance & Troubleshooting

• Troubleshoot, diagnose, repair, and maintain highly automated manufacturing and packaging equipment
• Perform advanced mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and controls troubleshooting
• Support automated material handling, conveying, processing, packaging, and robotic systems
• Interface with PLC and HMI systems to identify equipment faults and support controls troubleshooting
• Troubleshoot motors, VFDs, sensors, drives, conveyors, pumps, and utility equipment
• Read and interpret electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, and system layouts
• Perform equipment fabrication, modification, and mechanical assembly as needed

Preventive & Predictive Maintenance

• Execute preventive maintenance programs
• Support predictive maintenance initiatives
• Maintain accurate maintenance records using a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS)
• Document work orders, equipment history, and parts usage
• Identify critical spare parts requirements and support inventory accuracy

Continuous Improvement

• Conduct Root Cause Analysis (RCA) for equipment failures
• Recommend and implement long-term corrective actions
• Improve equipment uptime, reliability, throughput, and Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE)
• Support equipment upgrades, automation improvements, and capital projects
• Participate in equipment installation, commissioning, and startup activities

Leadership & Collaboration

• Train and mentor maintenance technicians and equipment operators
• Support Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) initiatives
• Partner with Operations, Engineering, and Production to improve equipment performance
• Assist in developing preventive maintenance procedures and equipment standards

Safety & Compliance

• Follow all electrical safety standards and Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures
• Maintain compliance with GMP and food safety requirements
• Promote a safe working environment
• Immediately address equipment or process conditions that could impact employee safety or product quality
• Perform additional duties as assigned

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• High school diploma or GED required
• Technical or trade school education in Industrial Maintenance, Mechatronics, Electrical Technology, or related field preferred
• Minimum five years of industrial maintenance experience supporting highly automated manufacturing environments
• Strong multi-craft maintenance experience including:
- Mechanical systems
- Electrical systems
- Pneumatic systems
- Industrial controls
• Working knowledge of:
- PLC systems
- HMI interfaces
- Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs)
- Motors and motion control systems
- Sensors and industrial automation components
• Experience troubleshooting integrated manufacturing systems
• Strong preventive and predictive maintenance background
• Experience improving equipment reliability and production efficiency
• Knowledge of GMPs and regulated manufacturing environments preferred
• Experience with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS)
• Excellent troubleshooting, analytical, and communication skills
• Experience supporting robotics or automated packaging equipment preferred
• Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Lift up to 50 pounds
• Stand and walk for extended periods
• Frequently bend, stoop, squat, climb ladders, and work in confined spaces
• Operate hand tools, power tools, and maintenance equipment
• Work around automated manufacturing equipment
• Work in varying temperatures and moderate industrial noise
• Exposure to common food allergens may occur
• Wear required PPE at all times
• Manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
• Utilize digital maintenance systems and mobile devices
