Supervision – Provide safety and security by supervising staff and inmate workers, setting work standards, and promoting high performance. Staff Supervision – Participate in hiring, performance planning, task assignment, training, and mentorship for staff development. Inmate Supervision – Conduct hiring, train inmates in preventive maintenance, monitor projects, perform evaluations, and facilitate work opportunities for reentry. Operations – Operate the facility garage, oversee the fleet of automobiles, trucks, heavy equipment, perform maintenance tasks (oil changes, tire rotation, repairs, welding, metal fabrication), and maintain records for State Fleet Management. Tool Room – Manage tool inventory, labeling, issuing, documentation, and ordering of tools and hazardous materials. Minimum Qualifications Experience – Four (4) years performing automotive mechanical repair, welding (metal fabrication), and/or heavy construction equipment repair, with at least two (2) years in heavy construction equipment/automotive repair. Must clearly describe work experience in the application. Special Requirement – Colorado Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) must be obtained within two (2) years of employment. License/Certifications – ASE Certification (Automotive Service Excellence) must be obtained within two (2) years of employment. Substitution – Completion of a formalized apprenticeship program or degree through an accredited vocational/trade school may substitute for experience on a year-for-year basis. Must be 21 years of age or older. Must possess a valid driver’s license and maintain a safe driving record. Must possess a high school diploma or GED. Must have valid U.S. work authorization; no H‑1B sponsorship will be provided. Must have no felony convictions or related criminal offenses as described in state and federal law. Must successfully complete all modules of the six‑week Colorado Department of Corrections Basic Training, including defensive tactics and relevant competency assessments. Background investigation is required. Preferred Qualifications Related State of Colorado work experience. Proficiency in welding and metal fabrication. Proficiency in other construction building trades. Heavy Construction Equipment Operator experience. Required Competencies Self‑motivation. Tactful and diplomatic interpersonal skills. Ability to respond to emergency situations involving inmates or physical plant issues. Follow policy and use state resources responsibly. Climbing skills and ability to work in confined spaces. Strong sense of self‑control, stress resilience, and emotional stability under pressure. Tolerance to stress, confinement, and high‑stakes interaction.
