Job Description & Requirements Specialty: Med Surg / Telemetry Discipline: RN Start Date: ASAP Duration: 13 weeks 36 hours per week Shift: 12 hours, nights Employment Type: Travel Estimated Gross Weekly Pay: $ 2281.36 Opportunity: RN - MedSurg General Medical Job Details: • 12-hour night shifts from 6:45 PM to 7:15 AM • Every other weekend required • No specific holiday requirement; may rotate in with core staff • No block scheduling; travelers are utilized to fill gaps in the schedule • No scheduling requests accommodated for travelers • May be placed on standby for low census; no additional call required • Guaranteed hours do not apply during orientation; 2 orientation shifts of 12 hours each • Nurse-to-patient ratios: Day shift 1:4-5, Night shift 1:4-6 • Nurse aide support available with ratios of 1:7-9 for both day and night shifts • Charge nurse coverage 24/7; charge nurse typically does not take a patient assignment • House supervisor and critical care outreach RN available 24/7 • Remote telemetry monitored by a tele tech on a separate unit; nurses must have basic understanding of strip interpretation and lethal rhythms (Phillips Monitors) • Common patient diagnoses include GI, pneumonia, cellulitis, renal, CHF, diabetes, ETOH withdrawal, electrolyte imbalances, infectious patients, general medical patients, and psych patients with medical complaints • Preferred experience with deescalation techniques, chest tubes, heparin drips, NG tubes, and feeding tubes • RNs may occasionally titrate drips; common drips include heparin and cardizem (titrated) and amiodarone (set rate); vasopressors are never used • RT equipment includes CPAP at night for maintenance, high flow oxygen, and occasional BiPAP managed by RT; no ventilators on unit • Travelers are first to float within skill set; may float to other med surg units, ICU as a resource, ER for holds, or to various units as a sitter • Charting system: EPIC • Required certification: BLS • BSN not required • Professional scrubs of any color required; no tattoos visible above shoulders; only facial piercing allowed is a nose stud; any hair color permitted as long as it is clean and well-kempt • Teamwork is essential; facility places high importance on bedside report and hourly rounding • Must comply with care bundles and accept feedback graciously Facility: This acute care facility is a Level 2 Trauma Center offering a wide range of inpatient medical services. The MedSurg General Medical unit features 36 private beds and is supported by a robust team including charge nurses, house supervisors, critical care outreach RNs, and break/resource nurses available around the clock.
