- Proficient in performing routine and emergency echocardiograms
- Skilled in operating ultrasound equipment
- Experience with transthoracic echocardiograms
- Knowledge of ultrasound contrast utilization


Description:
The Echocardiographer is responsible for performing transthoracic echocardiograms.
This individual sets up and assists with transesophageal echocardiograms.
Under the direction of a trained echocardiographer, this individual performs exercise and Dobutamine stress echocardiograms.
Competency in the delivery of care to a primarily adult population is required.
Other duties may be assigned.
One to three years of experience as a cardiac sonographer is required.
The candidate must demonstrate proficiency by performing various echocardiograms, including 2-dimensional, 3-dimensional, and Doppler echocardiograms.
Echocardiographic services must be provided at necessary locations as needed.
The echocardiographer is responsible for operating equipment necessary to perform required procedures.
Optimal images must be obtained utilizing selected transducers, digital networking systems, and offline analysis systems.
Recognizing basic cardiac pathology is essential.
Analyzing the patient's medical record to obtain relevant history for diagnostic procedures is required.
The echocardiographer prepares preliminary reports for review and interpretation by cardiologists.
Comparisons of previous studies must be noted in the reports.
The echocardiographer sets up for and assists with transesophageal echocardiograms.
Cleaning and sterilizing the TEE probe is mandatory along with performing TEE probe leakage testing.
Maintaining a clean and orderly patient care environment is important.
Equipment must be kept in working order through minor adjustments and repairs.
Routine cleaning and preventive maintenance of equipment must be performed.
Any equipment malfunctions must be reported accordingly.
Participation in quality improvement activities is expected.
Evaluating procedure results for technical quality and accuracy is necessary.
Maintaining appropriate logs, files, and records is required.
The echocardiographer prepares and instructs patients both pre- and post-procedure.
Utilization of ultrasound contrast must be performed according to established guidelines and departmental policies.
Understanding and explaining potential side effects to patients is critical.
