As a part-time paraprofessional, you will work one-on-one with a kindergarten child who has a visual impairment, helping to foster independence and success throughout the school day. Your guidance will be instrumental in providing specialized support, ensuring both safety and access to learning.
Key Qualifications:
- Previous experience as a paraprofessional, ideally in a school setting
- Familiarity with supporting individuals with visual impairments is highly valued
- Willingness to learn and assist with braille under the guidance of a vision specialist
- Ability to collaborate closely with both the vision specialist and RSP Teacher
- Patience, flexibility, and a nurturing attitude are essential
- Strong verbal and interpersonal communication skills
Primary Responsibilities:
- Provide one-on-one assistance to a kindergarten student during school hours (7:55am to 11:30am, Monday through Friday)
- Support safe navigation and mobility throughout the school campus
- Assist with braille learning activities as directed by the vision specialist
- Help reinforce instruction and adaptations provided by the education team
- Maintain clear, consistent communication with teachers and support staff regarding student progress and needs
- Encourage positive social and learning experiences
