Job Title: Manufacturing Equipment Technician
Duration: PERM
Shift: M-F 1st Shift  

• Supports the Fabrication Department.
• Company has purchased several new pieces of manufacturing equipment, primarily welding equipment, that are arriving in parts and require assembly, installation, setup, and commissioning.
• This person will be responsible for helping get the new equipment operational and supporting ongoing manufacturing equipment needs.
• Eligible for an annual performance bonus: Based on overall company performance, position, and tenure. Typically paid in January or early February. First-year bonus is prorated based on hire date.
• Prefer candidates from larger manufacturing companies rather than small "mom-and-pop" shops or companies with only 5–10 employees.
• Looking for someone with experience working in a more structured manufacturing environment.
• 5–10 years of experience preferred, with some flexibility for a strong candidate.
• May require additional hours as production ramps up on first shift.
• Candidates with experience installing, troubleshooting, and maintaining production equipment—especially welding or fabrication equipment—would likely be the strongest fit.

Job Summary:
The Manufacturing Equipment Technician maintains, troubleshoots, repairs, modifies, and improves equipment used in fabrication, machining, assembly, and plastic fusion operations. This hands-on role applies mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and fabrication skills to keep production equipment operating safely, reliably, and efficiently.
The technician performs preventive maintenance, responds to equipment issues, supports capital equipment projects, and implements practical improvements that reduce downtime and improve manufacturing performance. This position works closely with Production, Quality, equipment suppliers, and outside service providers.

Main Responsibilities:
Equipment Maintenance, Troubleshooting & Documentation

• Troubleshoot, repair, maintain, and modify manufacturing equipment and production systems.
• Diagnose mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and electromechanical issues and restore equipment to safe operating condition.
• Repair or replace components such as motors, drives, sensors, relays, cylinders, valves, pumps, gearboxes, and bearings.
• Troubleshoot PLC-controlled equipment, industrial controls, and automated systems, and perform preventive maintenance to improve reliability and reduce unplanned downtime.

Equipment Improvements and Capital Projects

• Identify and implement improvements to equipment safety, reliability, maintainability, and performance.
• Design, fabricate, and install equipment modifications, guards, attachments, fixtures, and other enhancements.
• Assist with evaluating, selecting, installing, commissioning, and starting up new manufacturing equipment.
• Coordinate with equipment manufacturers, suppliers, and outside service providers during repairs, installations, upgrades, and technical troubleshooting. Participate in equipment runoffs, design reviews, capability studies, and production launches, and recommend repairs, upgrades, modifications, or replacement based on operational needs.

Tooling & Manufacturing Support

• Modify and fabricate basic tooling, fixtures, gauges, and equipment aids to support production.
• Provide equipment-related technical support to fabrication, machining, valve assembly, actuation assembly, and other manufacturing operations.
• Partner with Production and Quality to resolve equipment problems and implement practical solutions.
• Develop proficiency in company technologies and related equipment, and complete applicable training and certification in plastic welding methods, equipment, and applications.
• Assist with production activities and special projects as business needs require.

Plastic Fusion Technology

• Develop proficiency in company technologies and related manufacturing equipment.
• Complete training and certification in applicable plastic welding techniques, equipment, and applications.
• Support the maintenance, troubleshooting, and improvement of fabrication equipment used in plastic fusion operations.

Documentation and Knowledge Transfer

• Maintain accurate maintenance procedures, equipment records, repair histories, and troubleshooting information.
• Document equipment repairs, modifications, and improvements, and update technical documentation when systems or components change.
• Share equipment knowledge and provide technical guidance to production personnel to support consistent maintenance practices and long-term equipment reliability.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

• Strong mechanical aptitude and advanced troubleshooting skills.
• Working knowledge of mechanical systems, electrical controls, pneumatics, hydraulics, and electromechanical equipment.
• Ability to troubleshoot motors, drives, sensors, relays, and industrial control systems.
• Experience troubleshooting PLC-controlled equipment preferred.
• Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, equipment manuals, and technical documentation.
• Welding, fabrication, and basic machining experience preferred.
• Proficiency with common hand tools, power tools, diagnostic equipment, and machine shop equipment.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently.
• Ability to prioritize multiple equipment needs in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.

Education, Experience & Special Requirements:

• Associate degree or technical certification (preferred NOT required) in industrial maintenance, mechanical technology, manufacturing technology, mechatronics, electrical technology, or a related field preferred. An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience will be considered.
• At least five years of hands-on experience maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, and modifying manufacturing equipment in an industrial environment.
• Experience with mechanical systems, electrical controls, pneumatics, hydraulics, automation, and production machinery.
• Experience supporting equipment installation, startup, modification, or improvement projects preferred.
• Experience with fabrication, machining, assembly, welding, PLC-controlled equipment, or custom manufacturing equipment preferred.
