Under supervision of the Director of Health Care Programs & Nursing Assistant Coordinator, the part-time instructor may teach either/or Nursing Assistant I or Nursing Assistant II courses or other healthcare related programs in the classroom/lab and clinical settings as needed, on a semester to semester basis. Will perform related administrative and record-keeping duties as required for the Nursing Assistant Program. Reports to the Director Health Care programs/Nursing Assistant Coordinator.
What You'll Do
Teaches courses in the Nursing Assistant curriculum in the classroom/lab, online format and clinical settings as needed on a semester by semester basis. Assists with planning and implementing of the Nursing Assistant courses and clinical orientation process. Evaluates student classroom/lab and clinical performances and ensures completion of the classroom/lab and clinical reference forms prior to the exit review with the Nursing Assistant Coordinator; responsible for the grading of assignments and maintaining files including attendance rosters/Final grading forms per the guidelines of governing agencies including PCC, DHSP, and the NC Board of Nursing (NCBON). Will perform various other student-related duties including advising students, assisting with counseling of students and assisting students with study skills. Provides regular, accurate, and timely feedback to students including grading of assignments; is available to students requiring additional assistance. Enforces academic policy and procedures at all times; complies with all institutional rules and regulations pertinent to classroom, laboratory, and/or clinical instruction and general employment. Will assist with the building of self-esteem of students and identifying the student's strengths and weaknesses. Will write letters of recommendation for job placement of students following the successful completion of the Nursing Assistant I or II courses. Will assist Director/NA Coordinator with providing our various clinical sites with their required clinical records, health records, etc. prior to the students attending clinical. Will maintain a positive processional relationship with all colleagues including those clinical facilities, and take an active role in problem-solving and conflict resolution. Remains active in professional organizations and activities. Keeps abreast of the newest research and technological advances relative to nursing assistant education courses by reading professional journals, and/or attending seminars, conferences, meetings, etc. when requested by the Director/Nursing Assistant Coordinator. Operate and utilize various types of office and medical equipment including a computer, stethoscope, glucometers, IV equipment, feeding equipment or any diagnostic equipment relative to the teaching of the Nursing Assistant courses.
What We Are Looking For
An Associate Degree in nursing; a current unencumbered RN license to practice in North Carolina; must have at least 2 years of experiences as a registered nurse; meets at least one of the following: a.) has completed a course in teaching adults, b.) has experience in teaching adults, c.) has experience in supervising nursing assistants and must have at least one year of experience in providing care for the elderly or chronically ill of any age.

Physical Requirements: Requires the ability to operate a variety of types of office, instructional, and medical equipment including computer, copier, calculator, audio-visual equipment, etc. Requires the ability to exert up to twenty-five pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently and to frequently lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. Physical demands are in excess of sedentary work. Requires the ability to walk, stand, stoop, reach, crouch, kneel, finger, grasp, etc. for extended periods of time. Must be able to lift and/or carry weights of approximately thirty pounds. Requires the ability to perceive attributes of objects such as size, shape, temperature, or texture by means of receptors in skin, particularly those of the fingertips. Data Conception: Requires the ability to compare and/or judge the readily observable functional, structural, or compositional characteristics (whether similar to or divergent from obvious standards) of data, people, or things. Interpersonal Communication: Requires the ability of speaking and/or signaling people to convey or exchange information, including the giving and receiving of instructions, assignments, or directions. Language Ability: Requires the ability to read a variety of electronic and hard-copy documents, reports, and forms such as manuals, student handbook and catalog, various texts, etc. Requires the ability to prepare various documents and reports such as lesson plans, grade/evaluation reports, attendance reports, book orders, budgets, assessment plans, etc., using the proper format, punctuation, spelling and grammar. Intelligence: Requires the ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems, deal with nonverbal symbolism in its most difficult phases, deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables, and comprehend the most abstruse classes of concepts. Attention: Requires the ability to demonstrate good selective, sustained, alternating, and divided attention when interacting with others. Verbal Aptitude: Requires the ability to record and deliver information, explain procedures, and follow verbal and written instructions. Numerical Aptitude: Requires the ability to utilize mathematical formulas to add, subtract, multiply, and divide; determine percentages and decimals; determine time and weight; apply algebraic principles; and utilize descriptive statistics. Form/Spatial Aptitude: Requires the ability to inspect items for proper length, width and shape. Motor Coordination: Requires the ability to coordinate hands and eyes rapidly and accurately when utilizing a variety of equipment including automated office equipment, instructional equipment, medical equipment, etc. Manual Dexterity: Requires the ability to handle a variety of items including office equipment, medical equipment, control knobs, switches, etc. Must have high levels of eye/hand/foot coordination. Visual Acuity: Requires the ability to have close visual acuity to perform activities such as preparing and analyzing data and figures, viewing a computer terminal, expansive reading, visual inspection involving small defects, small parts and/or operation of equipment, using measurement devices, etc. Color Discrimination: Requires the ability to differentiate colors and shades of color. Interpersonal Temperament: Requires the ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions. Must be adaptable to performing under high stress when confronted with an emergency. Supplemental Information Knowledge of Job: Demonstrates thorough understanding of and commitment to the mission and philosophy of the North Carolina Community College System and the mission and goals of Pitt Community College, the Health Sciences Division, and Nursing Program. Demonstrates knowledge of trends and best practices in nursing education; principles of adult education and student-centered learning activities; modern instructional technology; and OSHA standards as they apply to health sciences educational environments. Demonstrates proficiency with use of email, word-processing, spreadsheets, databases, presentation software, and Internet.
