Reg Respiratory Therapist-Atlantic Health Morristown Medical Center-Part Time Days

Job Description Responsible for providing respiratory therapy care and life support to patients with cardiopulmonary system deficiencies and abnormalities, under supervision of a physician. Principal Accountabilities Evaluate prescriptions, measure arterial blood gases, and review patient information to assess condition and determine treatment requirements such as type, duration, medication and dosages. Render aerosol medications and treatments for inhalation, and position patients to aid breathing and prevent lung obstruction. Determine the most suitable method of administering inhalants, observe precautions, and modify as needed in accordance with physician orders. Set up and operate devices such as mechanical ventilators, therapeutic gas administration apparatus, environmental control systems, and aerosol generators to support respiration and maintain oxygen supply. Operate equipment to ensure specified treatment parameters—volume, gas concentration, humidity, temperature—and administer medicinal gases and aerosol drugs to patients. Monitor patient physiological responses to therapy, including vital signs, arterial blood gases, and blood chemistry changes. Perform chest physiotherapy to remove mucus from lungs and assist patients with breathing exercises. Assist in diagnostic testing by conducting pulmonary function tests used for physician diagnosis. Observe equipment function and adjust to obtain optimal therapeutic results. Consult with the physician in case of adverse reactions. Maintain patient charts containing pertinent identification and therapy information; inspect and test respiratory therapy equipment for safety and efficiency, and order repairs when needed. Provide patient education and support for patients suffering from chronic lung disease. Demonstrate respiratory care procedures to trainees and other health care personnel. May care for premature infants, elderly patients, and trauma patients. Perform other related duties as assigned. Qualifications Associate of Science degree from an accredited respiratory therapist program, required. Bachelor's Degree, highly preferred. Minimum 1+ years of Respiratory Care experience, required. Critical care experience, highly preferred. Previous experience with PFT studies and cardiopulmonary testing, highly preferred. Current or past experience with EPIC charting, highly preferred. Credentialed as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) by the National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC), required. Credentialed as Certified or Registered Pulmonary Function Technologist, expected to have or obtain within 12 months of hire. Active license for Respiratory Therapy in New Jersey, required. Advanced and Basic Life Support certification required.
