Summary:

Vighter is recruiting Nurse Practitioners (NP) with a specialty in Family Medicine to provide patient care support at the Naval Medical Center, San Diego, CA.The Medical Facilities in and around San Diego are rated as a complex medical facility, therefore provides care to Active-Duty Military, Veterans, Veterans and Family members locally and from surrounding states.

The Nurse Practitioner (NP) will provide comprehensive inpatient, outpatient, and telehealth care for maxillofacial surgery patients as an embedded member of the Maxillofacial Surgery service and the Center of Excellence in Maxillofacial Restoration. The NP will serve as a key continuity provider across the care continuum, supporting surgeon-led care delivery while exercising independent clinical judgment within established protocols, collaborative practice agreements, and Maxillofacial Surgery-defined care pathways.

Principle Accountabilities:

• Assignments include Acute; Adult; Gerontology (Acute or Primary Care); Family Practice; Flight Medicine; Neonatal; Pediatric; Psychiatric-MH or PC; Women's Health.
• Provide a full range of outcome-based nurse practitioner services in accordance with privileges granted by the MTF (e.g., clinically supervise and provide general screening and medical care and examinations of patients for routine, acute and chronic conditions involving any and all organ systems; provide immunizations; diagnose, treat, and counsel patients as indicated).
• The NP will assess, evaluate, and manage patients across preoperative, perioperative, and postoperative phases of care, with particular emphasis on complex and multidisciplinary populations. Responsibilities include perioperative coordination, inpatient management, post-discharge follow-up, and patient education.
• Diagnose and treat patients with common acute conditions, chronic illnesses, or minor trauma within clinical practice guidelines in consultation with a physician.
• Promote preventive care and health maintenance including annual physical, positive health behaviors and self-care through both formal and individual education and counseling.
• Communicate and collaborate with a diverse group of people to inform the healthcare team of plans/actions, for teaching/education to benefit the patient/family and organization.
• Participate in rounds, outpatient clinics and multidisciplinary conferences. In collaboration with Maxillofacial Surgery faculty and program leadership, the NP will contribute to workflow optimization, quality and safety initiatives and operational support of the Center of Excellence.

• Knowledge of regulations (HIPAA/Privacy Act) regarding the confidentiality of patient medical records and information as well as Personally Identifiable Information (PII).

Knowledge and Skills:

• Must have exceptional customer service skills.
• Employees shall be technically proficient in the skills necessary to fulfill the job requirements, including ability to speak, understand, read and write English fluently.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced changing environment with limited supervision.
• Excellent organizational, scheduling and prioritization skills.

Education:

• Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) or Doctorate (DNP) from an accredited university.
• Graduate within the specialty field of nursing study that is accredited by a regional or national nursing accrediting agency recognized by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).

Qualifications:

• Minimum of five (5) years of advanced practice experience, including three (3) years in a surgical or procedural subspecialty (e.g., maxillofacial surgery, ENT, plastic surgery, trauma).
• Must have and maintain one of the following certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) or ACLS for health care providers through the American Heart Association.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills; Commitment to patient-centered care. Ability to work independently while being a collaborative team player.

Duty Hours / On-call Requirements:

• The expected duty hours for this position are 8 hours per day and 5 days per week. However, this position supports 24/7 operations which may require work to be conducted at night and on weekends.

• As required to satisfy the contractual obligations. Commuting is non-compensatory. All official travel is government funded.

Physical Requirements :

• Must be able to stand or sit for more than 8 hours per day.

Work Schedule: Services shall be provided Monday through Friday, between the hours of 0600 -1800 hours. Shifts will normally be scheduled for an 8.5, 9.5 or 10.5-hour period, to include an uncompensated 60-minute lunch break, respectively. In no instance will the Full Time Equivalent (FTE) or Part Time Equivalent (PTE) HCW be required to provide services more than 80 hours per two-week period.
