(NP) Nurse Practitioner - Endourology

DESCRIPTION

Under the direction of Urologic Surgeons, the Nurse Practitioner (NP) provides clinically expert patient care in support of the Urology Service. The NP will manage post-operative and surveillance patients, particularly those with metabolic stone disease; provide comprehensive dietary, behavioral, and pharmacologic management; provide acute access for patients actively passing stones who require timely surgical evaluation; perform procedures such as cystoscopy with stent removals and diagnostic cystoscopy; and evaluate and manage general urology patients in the clinic setting.

Additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to, patient evaluations, history and physical exams, development and execution of treatment plans, patient care coordination with nursing staff, and discharge planning, management of patient health issues, prioritizing and resolving issues, escalating to physicians as appropriate. Manage and document all communications in the electronic medical record system. The position requires a strong emphasis on the complete care of the surgical patient and demonstrates excellent communication skills, involving physicians, the resident team, nursing staff, family, and all other relevant team members to provide comprehensive care. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Must be a graduate from an accredited nurse practitioner program.

• California Registered Nurse (RN) license, California Nurse Practitioner (NP) license, and Furnishing License Certification.

• National NP board certification in an aligned specialty with the practice area.

• BLS certification at time of hire with commitment to get BART within six months of hire date.

• A minimum of three (3+) years of urology outpatient experience as an NP.

• A minimum of two (2+) years of endourology outpatient experience.

• Knowledge of common urologic problems and treatments.

• Theoretical background in anatomy, physiology, general medicine, pulmonary, emergency, and critical care medicine, management of common diseases, concepts of medicine and surgery, therapeutics, including pharmacology, counseling techniques, and interpersonal dynamics.

• Working knowledge of medical terminology.

• Skill in telephone interviewing of patients to efficiently retrieve accurate information.

• Ability to perform initial history and physical examination, identify major medical problems, and formulate appropriate plans of action.

• Writing skills to prepare clear medical reports, laboratory data, and progress notes, as well as policies, procedures, and protocols for patient care management.

• Ability to communicate effectively with patients and other health care personnel, and skill at providing clear written, verbal, and telephone communication with a wide variety of people.

• Ability to assess the daily status and progress of patients and report this effectively to the physician and other medical care personnel associated with the patient.

• Ability to maintain good working relationships and communications with physicians in-charge, laboratory personnel, and members of the health care team.

• Knowledge of medical ethics and law practices, pertaining to medical and medical socioeconomics

• Knowledge necessary for instructing housestaff, medical students, physicians, nurses, and other medical personnel in all aspects of acute and chronic care.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS

• Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs. The primary work location is UC San Diego Health - Genesee Avenue.
• Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.
• Must be able to obtain UCSD Medical Staff privileges and maintain during employment. Due to advanced practice credentialing eligibility, clinical advanced practice experience must be within the last two years gained through school or work experience.
• Current UCSD NPIII employees may be hired at the NPIII level pending review and approval by Health Human Resources and the UCSD Advanced Practice Council.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $176,624 - $247,157 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $84.59 - $118.37
