Estimator and Business Development

Estimator / Business Development Vital Contracting, LLC | Remote, Phoenix Valley based | Full-Time | $80,000 - $100,000 Vital Contracting is a heavy civil and site development contractor looking for an estimator who does more than price what lands in the inbox. This role owns the front end of our pipeline: finding the work, qualifying it, pricing it, winning it, and handing it clean to operations. If you already know the Arizona construction market and have GC relationships you can pick up the phone and call, this is a role where that network directly drives your success. What You'll Do Find the work. Monitor bid platforms, plan rooms, public solicitations and GC invitations, and research projects before invitations go out. Build the network. Develop and maintain relationships with general contractors, developers, municipalities and engineers to generate bid opportunities and approved-bidder status. Qualify before you price. Evaluate scope, location, schedule, competition, resources and profitability so estimating time goes to the projects worth winning. Estimate accurately. Review plans, specs and addenda, perform quantity takeoffs, and price labor, equipment, material and subcontractor costs using historical production data. Manage the bid. Solicit and review vendor and sub pricing, attend pre-bid meetings and site walks, identify risks, exclusions and scope gaps, and submit complete bids on time. Follow up and close the loop. Chase bid status, handle scope clarifications and negotiations, track hit rates, and feed results back into future pricing. Turn it over. On award, deliver an organized handoff to operations covering production assumptions, manpower, equipment, sub commitments and exclusions. Keep management current on opportunities identified, bids in progress, pending awards and anticipated workload. Our Scope of Work Mass excavation, finish grading, site grading and preparation, land clearing, building and site pads, water truck services, soil stabilization, drainage and culvert work, trenching, rock and aggregate placement, cattle guard installation, demolition and haul-off, and related heavy civil and sitework services. What We're Looking For 3+ years of construction estimating experience, with heavy civil, excavation, grading, earthwork or site development strongly preferred. Existing relationships within the Arizona construction industry. Required. Proven experience identifying and developing new bidding opportunities, not just estimating assigned work. Ability to read and fully interpret construction plans, specifications and bid documents, with strong takeoff and cost analysis skills. Solid grasp of construction means and methods, particularly earthwork and heavy civil operations. Comfort with estimating, takeoff and bid management software, plus Microsoft Office. Self-directed, organized and accountable. You manage multiple deadlines without being chased. High school diploma or GED required. Bachelor's in Construction Management, Engineering, Business or a related field preferred. Compensation & Benefits $80,000 - $100,000 annually, depending on experience and qualifications Monthly vehicle allowance for required business travel Paid Time OffHealth insurance with employer contribution toward employee coverage Requirements Valid driver's license, acceptable motor vehicle record, and reliable personal transportation for local and regional travel. Occasional overnight travel may be required. Must be able to access active construction sites and wear required PPE.
