Controller
Location: El Segundo, CA
Full-Time | Onsite
A well-established, privately held consumer products company is seeking an experienced Controller to take ownership of its day-to-day accounting and financial operations.
This is a highly hands-on position for someone who enjoys being close to the business and can comfortably move between month-end close, cash management, accounting operations, payroll administration, compliance and financial reporting. The Controller will work closely with company leadership as well as internal and external accounting partners supporting multiple business entities.
What You'll Be Doing
- Lead the monthly close process and ensure accurate, timely financial reporting
- Maintain balance sheet reconciliations, general ledger accuracy and inventory accounting
- Manage intercompany activity and accounting across multiple entities
- Oversee daily cash activity, banking, payments and account reconciliations
- Review accounts payable, accounts receivable and other transactional accounting activity
- Prepare recurring management reports and financial analysis
- Coordinate payroll processing and related accounting entries
- Support employee benefits administration and required reporting
- Partner with outside tax, audit and accounting professionals
- Assist with sales tax compliance and year-end reporting requirements
- Maintain strong internal controls around cash, payments and accounting processes
- Take ownership of accounting systems, workflows and process improvements
- Support insurance renewals, workers' compensation audits and other business compliance matters
- Work collaboratively with accounting resources supporting domestic and international operations
What We're Looking For
The ideal candidate is an experienced hands-on Controller who is comfortable owning the details rather than operating solely at a strategic level.
We're looking for someone with:
- Strong full-cycle accounting and month-end close experience
- Experience working in a multi-entity environment
- Solid understanding of cash management, reconciliations and internal controls
- Experience with inventory accounting
- ERP/accounting systems experience; NetSuite experience is highly preferred
- Exposure to multi-currency or international accounting is a plus
- Experience coordinating with auditors, tax professionals and outside advisors
- Comfort working in a smaller or mid-sized organization where responsibilities may extend beyond traditional accounting
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail and a roll-up-your-sleeves approach
