This travel ICU nursing assignment involves providing high-acuity, adult patient care in a 14-bed ICU unit within a regional health network. The role requires floating to med-surg when census dictates and addressing ICU-level needs for critical patients. The position emphasizes collaboration with respiratory therapy, ancillary staff, and the ICU leadership team, with a focus on safety, precise medication administration, and timely response to emergencies.

Responsibilities
- Provide direct, evidence-based care for adult ICU patients with conditions such as sepsis, respiratory failure requiring BiPAP/ventilation, DKA, electrolyte disturbances, and cardiac events.
- Monitor hemodynamics, ventilator status, and telemetry; titrate IV drips (vasopressors, sedation, analgesia) per protocols; assist with eligibility for procedures such as cardioversion, bronchoscopy, and airway interventions (RSI, extubation).
- Collaborate with Respiratory Therapy and other disciplines; participate in rapid responses and code blue events; support transfers from critical access or other units.
- Perform phlebotomy, IV therapy, blood product administration, and wound/pressure injury prevention; manage line care, including central lines when applicable.
- Document patient care in the electronic medical record (EPIC); assist with medication administration via the PIXIS system; ensure accurate charting and data entry.
- Utilize the unit’s standard procedures for patient safety, infection control, and surge planning; participate in unit-based quality and safety initiatives.
- Adapt to unit needs, including floating to med-surg as needed; anticipate patient care needs in a dynamic ICU environment with a nurse-to-patient ratio of 2:1 or 3:1 depending on shift.

Requirements
- Active Vermont registered nurse license on file at time of submission; eligible to practice in Vermont.
- Certifications: ACLS and BLS required; NIHSS required prior to start; CCRN and AHA PALS preferred.
- Experience: Minimum 3 years of clinical ICU experience; prior travel or float experience preferred.
- EMR experience: EPIC experience within the past 2 years is required.
- Ability to work 12-hour night shifts; comfortable with floating to med-surg and responding to ICU-level needs; can work in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment.
- Unit specifics: Knowledge of ICU procedures, ventilator management, and critical care pharmacology; willing to adhere to unit-specific policies and the absence of a cath lab, interventional radiology, neurology, ECMO, or dialysis capabilities.
