Coordinator of Fitness and Wellness

The Coordinator of Fitness and Wellness will report through the Department of Campus Recreation. This individual is responsible for assisting in the development and implementation of a comprehensive fitness and wellness program. Under the supervision of the Assistant Director of Fitness and Wellness, the Coordinator administers, organizes, and promotes a fitness program serving 3,000+ participants each year. Responsibilities Oversee the administration and oversight of all fitness and wellness programs, including Personal Training, Group Fitness, Small Group Training, Instructional Programs, and Special Events. Manage administrative duties related to personal training, fitness consultations, specialty courses, group exercise, small group training, and other program offerings. Plan and implement specialized fitness offerings, such as outreach events, incentive programs, educational tabling, and collaborative events. Develop and publish group fitness class schedules and formats to align with current trends and the diverse interests of the FAU community, including modified schedules for holidays, finals, and intersessions. Track and analyze group fitness class counts, completed personal training sessions, personal training mentor/mentee hours, program goals/data, and assign personal training clients. Teach nationally accredited and in‑house developed training courses to prepare students to become a Personal Trainer and/or Group Fitness Instructor; may include teaching specialty formats such as cycling, boxing, barre/Pilates, yoga, Zumba, etc. Recruit, hire, train, schedule, supervise, and evaluate approximately 2 fitness managers, 15 certified personal trainers, and 30 certified group fitness instructors. Maintain accurate staff contact lists and coordinate group fitness substitutes as needed. Organize and lead fitness staff training and maintain regular communication regarding departmental updates, special events, scheduling, etc. Evaluate employee performance on a semester basis and provide written and verbal feedback upon completion. Provide ongoing mentorship through regular check‑ins and one‑on‑one meetings. Track fitness equipment inventory and project equipment replacement needs annually. Coordinate custodial services and equipment maintenance through work order requests. Ensure staff are informed of safety and risk management procedures in the Emergency Action Plan and review them annually. Assist in development, implementation, and review of surveys for programs and events. Assist with departmental strategic planning and annual assessment materials. Assist in preparing monthly and annual reports related to key performance indicators. Assist with preparation of the department’s budget through staffing and expense projections. Assist with marketing efforts for fitness programming as needed. Attend meetings with Campus Recreation stakeholders and partner academic departments. Maintain and expand relationships with academic departments such as Exercise Science, Social Work, Nursing, and Medicine. Perform other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Master’s degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization; or a bachelor’s degree with two years of appropriate experience. Relevant experience in fitness program administration, staff supervision, and program evaluation. Strong organizational and communication skills.
