Military Outreach Coordinator Position Title & Department: Military Outreach Coordinator Posting # 5610 Department Description: The USD Military & Veterans Program provides student‑focused services to all USD military‑connected students, from their initial consideration of higher education through enrollment and transition to alumni status. UDP services enhance military and veteran students’ ability to achieve higher education and career goals effectively, using their benefits efficiently. USD MVP nurtures the academic success and personal growth of all military‑connected students, communicating the value they bring to campus and the greater community while countering negative stereotyping. University Description: The University of San Diego is a contemporary Catholic institution founded in 1949, committed to a liberal arts education grounded in a Catholic intellectual tradition. It welcomes people of all faith traditions and encourages engaged global citizenship. Detailed Description: This is an 80% position that will be off and unpaid for 6 weeks each fiscal year; dates to be determined by supervisor and employee. The Military Outreach Coordinator represents the Epstein Family Military Center at community college transfer fairs and on‑base military education fairs, serving as the primary contact for potential military‑connected students and promoting the University of San Diego to the military community. Through collaboration with campus partners and community stakeholders, the Coordinator supports the university’s Thriving Student Model, fosters a sense of belonging, and engages in EFMC activities, including retreats and graduation ceremonies on weekends and evenings. The Coordinator manages communications about center events and resources, maintains an inclusive environment, and encourages students to examine their intersectional identities. Duties and Responsibilities Develop, present, and promote the University of San Diego to potential military‑connected students with on‐ and off‑campus partners. Attend and represent the EFMC at community college, transfer, and military education fairs at local military installations. Participate in university orientations, open houses, and information sessions for prospective students on and off campus, often outside regular business hours. Meet regularly with prospective undergraduate students and their parents to discuss educational opportunities and benefit information. Use sound judgment to independently seek, vet, coordinate, establish, and maintain communication networks with appropriate institutions and representatives across organizational lines. Work collaboratively with Admissions offices and Schools to support military‑connected student recruiting initiatives. Conduct military awareness training for stakeholders, including Military‑Connected Ally Support Training. Visit local Community College Veterans Centers to promote the University of San Diego and the Military and Veterans Program. Engage in EFMC activities on and off campus, including retreats, graduation ceremonies, and weekend or evening events to support student belonging. Encourage students to examine their intersectional identities in relation to self and others. Serve as an advisor to student organizations, focusing on a sense of belonging. Support EFMC programming efforts. Provide exceptional customer service to visitors of the USD Epstein Family Military Center. Participate on retention teams, campus committees, and task forces related to military‑connected students, as needed. Perform additional duties as assigned. Special Conditions of Employment This is an 80% position that will be off and unpaid for 6 weeks each fiscal year. Successful completion of a pre‑employment background check is required. Persons offered employment must provide official education transcripts for degree verification. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree required. A high school diploma plus two additional years of work experience may substitute for a bachelor’s degree at the rate of one year of work experience equivalent to two years of education. Minimum two years of experience in a customer service position. Knowledge of veteran rules, regulations, and compliance issues. Preferred Qualifications Three or more years of experience in a customer service position. Experience directly supervising others. Experience planning and coordinating events. Previous military experience or familiarity with the military/veteran community. Performance Expectations – Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). Knowledge of policies and procedures related to veterans' benefits programs. Ability to maintain databases and websites, produce reports, and manage print materials. Ability to gather and analyze data relating to the USD Military and Veterans Program and USD military students to draw conclusions and make recommendations. Strong interest in working at a mission‑driven, faith‑based institution. Ability to interpret and apply rules and regulations. Exceptional internal and external customer service skills, including listening, oral and written communication, and empathy. Excellent interpersonal communication skills, attention to detail, and follow‑up skills. Ability to establish and maintain strong working relationships with colleagues, staff, administrators, students, government agencies, and visitors to the USD Veteran Center. Skilled in meeting with students one‑on‑one or in group settings. Posting Salary and Benefits Posting Salary: $24.13 – $32.58 per hour.
