Expected to work every other weekend and holidays in rotation with facility staff. The unit comprises 27 beds with patient ratios of 1:4 or 1:5. Staffing includes 2-3 patient care technicians and 1 unit secretary. Utilizes a Meditech documentation system. Nurses may float to ICU for downgrade patients and support ER holding for patients awaiting beds. Bedside shift report is utilized for patient handoff. Advanced skills include phlebotomy, administering respiratory treatments outside of ICU, and Foley catheter care and maintenance with nurse-driven protocols for removal. The unit performs telemetry monitoring of post-ICU patients. This role emphasizes teamwork and offers a supportive management environment.
