Aerospace Assembly Technician - Poway - 1st & 2nd Shift

Job Description

The Assembly Technician builds a variety of electrical cables used in aircraft and ground control stations, following detailed drawings, schematics, and written work instructions. This role performs wiring, component installation, soldering, and cable harnessing using both manual and automated tools, while adhering to quality standards, safety procedures, and lean principles in a calm, organized production environment.

Responsibilities

• Build and assemble various cables used in aircraft and ground control stations according to engineering and production requirements.

• Determine and follow methods and sequences of operations for assembly tasks such as wiring, component installation, hand soldering, and cable harnessing.

• Read, interpret, and follow assembly drawings, blueprints, schematics, wire lists, and written work instructions with accuracy.

• Crimp terminals and contacts onto wires using both manual and automated tooling in accordance with specifications.

• Perform soldering tasks including tinning wire, soldering splices, and making lap and hook connections that meet quality standards.

• Label cable assemblies and components in accordance with drawing and documentation specifications.

• Use basic hand tools such as cutters (dykes), wire strippers, hand crimpers, scissors, soldering irons, and heat guns safely and effectively.

• Perform a range of production assembly tasks, from repetitive operations to more complex and non-repetitive builds.

• Monitor and verify product quality in accordance with established control procedures and applicable standards.

• Follow all applicable laws, regulations, and company policies while conducting work on behalf of the organization.

• Work in a safe manner at all times, following established operating procedures and safety guidelines.

• Utilize basic computer operations and applications relevant to documenting work, accessing instructions, or recording production data.

• Collaborate effectively with team members while also being able to work independently with minimal supervision.

• Support 5S and Lean Principles by maintaining an organized, clean, and efficient work area.

• Work extended hours, including overtime and weekend shifts, as required to meet production demands.

Essential Skills

• Hands-on experience with cable assembly and/or cable harnessing in a production or similar environment.

• Proficiency in soldering, cable harnessing and assembly, and wire crimping using appropriate tools and techniques.

• Ability to read, follow, and understand blueprints, schematics, work instructions, and wire lists.

• Ability to crimp terminals and contacts onto wires using manual and automated tooling.

• Familiarity with basic hand tools including cutters (dykes), wire strippers, hand crimpers, scissors, soldering iron, and heat gun.

• Good visual perception and the ability to distinguish between colors for wiring and labeling tasks.

• Ability to read, write, and communicate clearly in English in a production environment.

• Customer-focused mindset with a good understanding of the general aspects of the job.

• Basic knowledge of computer operations and applications pertinent to production and documentation.

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with flexibility to work extended hours as required.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Certification to IPC/WHMA-A-620 standards is a plus.

• Understanding of 5S and Lean Principles is a plus.

• Good general technical comprehension and willingness to learn more complex aspects of cable assembly.

• Strong attention to detail, organization, and adherence to documented procedures.

Work Environment

This role supports a leading provider of remotely piloted aircraft, tactical reconnaissance radars, and advanced high-resolution surveillance systems. The position follows a 9/80 work schedule. First shift typically runs 5:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, with frequent overtime on Fridays and Saturdays until approximately 1:30 p.m. Second shift typically runs 3:00 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. Monday through Thursday, with overtime on Fridays and Saturdays from approximately 2:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. Each Assembly Technician works at an individual workbench or station, with all necessary tools and equipment provided at the workstation. Most work is performed while seated, in a calm, quiet, and very organized production environment. Personal electronic devices must remain put away; headphones are not allowed and phones must stay out of sight during work. The dress code requires long pants, clean and appropriate clothing with no loose garments, and closed-toe shoes to support a safe and professional environment.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Poway, CA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $25.96 - $27.26/hr.
