About the Position

Job Title: ICU Float Nurse Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: CVICU Duration: 18 weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum of 1 year CV ICU experience required License: Must possess an active nursing license Certifications: BCLS, ACLS, NIHSS required Must-Have: Strong, independent experienced nurses who can float to multiple ICUs, including Trauma, Oncology, Cardiac / Heart and Vascular, Client, Medicine, and COVID. Minimum of 2 years of ICU experience. CRRT experience is beneficial. Past experience with electronic charting is strongly preferred. Description: ICU Float Nurses are required to float to various intensive care units. This includes floating to Trauma, Oncology, Cardiac, Heart and Vascular, Client, Medicine, and COVID units. The ratio of patients to nurses is 2:1 in ICUs for all shifts. When not needed in the ICUs, nurses will be required to float to inpatient floors with a maximum ratio of 1:3. Floating may involve non-critical care units if the ICU census is low, and nurses may also be asked to serve as patient sitters if required. Nurses are expected to cover every other weekend or 6 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule, along with a holiday rotation. The preferred skill set includes familiarity with hemodynamic interpretation, IABP, Impella, ECMO, and vasoactive drips. Additional skills, such as vents, IV starts, tele, and conscious sedation are required. Experience with triage, ICP, PA lines, and Level 1 Trauma is preferred. This role requires the ability to provide care for adults and geriatric patients. Daily census includes a range of patient diagnoses such as acute stroke, acute respiratory failure, and fresh post-open heart care. Nurses will work collaboratively with interdisciplinary support teams, including physical therapy, respiratory services, and social services. All travelers must float within their service line as part of their job responsibilities.
