Elementary Assistant Principal - Winthrop (0.6 FTE) / Elementary Curriculum Coordinator (0.4 FTE) Starting Date: Jul 1, 2026 Job Description Title: Elementary Assistant Principal - Winthrop (0.6 FTE) / Elementary Curriculum Coordinator (0.4 FTE) Salary: $109,080.60 to $117,028.52 per CBA Reports to: Building Principal Job Goal: Work closely with the School Principal, Central Administration Team, Superintendent Designee, and staff to create a safe, supportive, and responsive school environment. Qualifications Appropriately licensed by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education in general elementary 1-6, pre K-2, and/or special education with additional licensure as an assistant principal/principal. Minimum of 5 years teaching experience. Master’s degree and/or CAGS in education administration. Experience in curriculum development and curriculum modifications. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing. Commitment to remain current in content knowledge and state and federal regulations. Demonstrated skills in instruction, management, planning, decision‑making, and interpersonal and community relations. Experience implementing positive behavioral interventions and supports. Acceptance of alternative qualifications as deemed appropriate by the Superintendent. Successful completion of a Criminal Record Check (C.O.R.I.) and fingerprint check. Performance Responsibilities for the Assistant Principal Role Assist the principal in overall administration to comply with mandated requirements and meet the mission of the school system. Provide support to all educational programs including special education and English as a Second Language in accordance with state and federal regulations. Use data to improve teaching and learning of staff and students. Collaborate with the principal on assignment, supervision, and evaluation of teachers and paraprofessionals. Coordinate with the principal to develop and maintain a systematic approach to tiered intervention and instruction for all programs. Provide educational leadership for both special and general education; review and recommend scientifically grounded intervention and remediation curriculum in reading, mathematics, executive functioning skills, and life skills. Assist with grant writing and management of grant funds. Assist in coordinating transportation, custodial, cafeteria, and other support services to ensure effective and efficient operation of the school site. Manage a variety of school administrative functions (e.g., student disciplinary policy, schedules, attendance monitoring, assigned personnel) to enforce policy and maintain safety and efficiency. Maintain high visibility within the school and communicate closely with students regarding behavior and performance. Assume full responsibility for the building and program in the absence of the Principal. Perform any other duties as assigned by the principal or superintendent. Performance Responsibilities for the Elementary Coordinator Role New Math Curriculum Implementation Strategic Rollout: Support the multi‑phase implementation of the newly adopted elementary math curriculum across all district elementary buildings. Pacing & Alignment: Design and update curriculum maps, scope and sequence documents, and pacing guides to align with the Massachusetts Mathematics Curriculum Frameworks. Professional Learning: Collaborate with the professional development team to design, organize, and facilitate comprehensive, ongoing training and workshops for teachers and instructional coaches on the new math program. Material Management: Oversee the budgeting, inventory, distribution, and replenishment of all new physical and digital mathematics instructional resources. Data-Driven Leadership & Meeting Co‑Facilitation Collaborative Data Meetings: Partner with building principals, math specialists, and literacy coaches to co‑facilitate regular, scheduled data cycles and grade‑level team meetings. Data Analysis: Disaggregate and analyze multi‑tiered student performance metrics (including MCAS and unit benchmark assessments) to pinpoint performance gaps and sub‑group trends. Action Planning: Guide instructional teams through the process of translating data into concrete classroom strategies, identifying students for MTSS interventions, and monitoring student progress. General Curriculum & Instructional Leadership Framework Alignment: Ensure horizontal and vertical alignment of all core elementary subjects (ELA, Math, Science, and Social Studies) across grade levels. Inclusive Practices: Collaborate with the Special Education and English Learner (EL) departments to ensure curriculum materials are accessible, universally designed (UDL), and culturally responsive. Mentoring & Induction: Support the onboarding, training, and professional growth of new elementary educators entering the district. Essential Functions of the Job Perform all tasks as the Principal deems necessary to carry out the responsibilities listed above. Build effective relationships with students, staff, parents, and community members. Maintain a safe and respectful environment, proper student conduct and discipline. Apply knowledge of Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks, current state standards and expectations, best and differentiated instructional strategies, and common assessment practices. Provide instructional and organizational leadership for the school. Promote an effective learning climate in the school. Support the school in adapting to the changing educational environment and implementing program improvements.
