Veterinary Extern - General Practice

Job Overview We are a small practice with a close-knit team. Externs will get a lot of one‑on‑one time with our Medical Director Dr. Dyer in wellness and sick exams, surgery, and dentistry. Externs may also shadow any department of the hospital, including management. Externship Details The externship can be very hands‑on, especially for 4th‑year students. The typical length ranges from two to eight weeks, depending on student and hospital schedules. Students will work closely with the supervising veterinarian to gain experience in gathering patient histories, performing physical exams, creating treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry services, observing, assisting, or performing surgical procedures, and medical management of patients. In addition, externs will develop communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients. Eligibility & Stipend All veterinary students, regardless of class year, are encouraged to participate. Students in the clinical portion of their education are eligible for a travel/living expense stipend.
