Desired Qualifications and Experience:
- Valid certification as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) or eligibility to obtain required credentials
- Proven knowledge of Braille, assistive technology, and accommodations for visually impaired students
- Experience designing and delivering effective lesson plans tailored for students with visual impairments, from early learners to high school-age
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate with general education teachers, families, and support staff
- Strong organizational abilities for documentation, tracking progress, and adjusting instructional strategies
- Enthusiasm for advocacy and commitment to inclusivity in the classroom
- Comfortable adapting instruction to various learning environments and student needs
Key Responsibilities:
- Assess student strengths and needs through observations and formal evaluations
- Develop and implement Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) specific to visual impairment
- Instruct students using specialized curriculum and adaptive equipment or technology
- Consult with general education teachers on inclusivity and accessibility strategies
- Foster a supportive and encouraging environment that nurtures academic growth and self-advocacy
- Provide training to staff and family members as needed on resources and techniques
- Maintain accurate records and progress reports
