Position Objective

Support the Assistant Controller in ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and compliance of ATOMIC's financial records and accounting operations, including ATOMIC Deutschland, through financial reporting, account reconciliations, internal controls, and process improvement initiatives.

1. Tax, Compliance, and Asset Management
   1. Manage tax compliance and reporting activities, including sales tax tracking, filings, and rate maintenance across multiple jurisdictions.
   2. Oversee fixed asset accounting and financial controls, including asset tracking, depreciation, and approval of international accounts payable transactions.
   3. Support cash management and vendor payment processes through ongoing cash flow monitoring and payment planning.

1. Financial Reporting, Controls, and Analysis
   1. Provide financial reporting and analysis, noting trends and making recommendations as appropriate.
   2. Assist with annual audits in partnership with VP of Finance and Assistant Controller.
   3. Manage internal controls and address process improvements as needed. 
   4. Provide back-up support to A/P and A/R functions as needed.

1. Month-End Close and Reconciliations
   1. Support the monthly financial close process through account reconciliations, journal entries, financial analysis, and general ledger maintenance.
   2. Ensure the accuracy of financial reporting through reconciliation of balances, inventory, commissions, intercompany accounts, and other key financial transactions.
   3. Provide cross-functional support and backup coverage for critical accounting, treasury, and finance operations.
2. Process in Coordination with HR:
   1. Manage tax compliance, filings, and payments for federal, state, and benefit-related programs, including payroll tax reporting, paid leave programs, health plan taxes, and other regulatory requirements.
   2. Coordinate regulatory reporting, audits, and government filings, ensuring accurate submission of HR, tax, census, and compliance-related documentation.
   3. Administer finance and HR-related financial processes, including invoice processing, required contributions and assessments, and specialized annual reporting initiatives such as tax credit filings and economic surveys.

Organizational Relationships

The Staff Accountant reports to the Assistant Controller and collaborates closely with leaders across all profit centers. 

Desired Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, cost control, and GAAP.
• Knowledge of sales tax, business tax filings, and international accounting transactions.
• Attention to detail, accuracy and follow-through. 
• Ability to lead, coach, and organize departmental workflow effectively.
• Strong communication skills, including the ability to explain financial concepts to non-financial stakeholders.
• Experience with QuickBooks or similar accounting, ERP, or financial systems.
• Understanding of month-end close, reconciliations, general ledger activity, and supporting schedules.
• Ability to support internal controls and practical process improvements.
• Ability to research tax, accounting, and compliance requirements as needed.
• Ability to prepare and explain job costing analysis and financial trends.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including advanced Excel skills for reporting, analysis, and reconciliations.

Credentials and Experience

• Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance, or 5+ years related experience.

Physical Requirements & Work Environment

• Ability to perform typical office tasks using a computer/phone in typical office environment. 
• Typical office environment for the majority of the time.
