Precision Assembler III Description

Job Description Summary

The Precision Assembler III is responsible for complex repair, troubleshooting, training, and technical documentation within the Mechanical Exchange Department. This role assembles and repairs Okuma units, supports troubleshooting efforts, evaluates warranty returns, develops repair procedures, and provides mentorship to team members. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and the ability to produce high-quality work within tight tolerances.

Essential Job Functions & Responsibilities

• Disassemble, clean, repair, and reassemble defective mechanical components
• Assemble units to OEM specifications across multiple product styles and configurations
• Perform dynamic balancing and final run-in testing on repaired units as required
• Inspect and evaluate incoming units for repair and service needs
• Review warranty returns, document findings, and provide detailed reporting
• Provide technical and administrative support to Mechanical Exchange Technicians
• Conduct final inspections and vibration analysis to ensure quality standards are met
• Ability to work a standard shift of 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
• Ability to work overtime and weekends as business needs require
• Adheres to all company employment policies and safe practices
• Performs other duties as assigned and explores opportunities to add value

Experience/Training/Education

High School diploma or equivalent

5+ years rebuild experience of Okuma spindles and/or mechanical sub-systems

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

General:

• Ability to work independently or as part of a team

• Ability to work in a fast paced production environment
• Attention to detail and strong problem solving skills

Technical:

Forklift Training, power tools, hand tools, measuring devices, Crane Inspection/Operation

Intermediate PC usage such as for email, timesheets, Excel, and business systemsAble to interpret assembly drawings and part prints

Communication:

• Excellent verbal communication skills, as well as exceptional listening skills
• Exceptional ability to speak and write effectively in a business environment
• Good note taking skills and procedure writing
• Effectively mentor all members of the department
• Provide candid and professional feedback to management on employee performance

Math & Reasoning:

• Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
• Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form

• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and willingness to adapt to change and take initiative

Physical and Environmental Elements

Physical Demands:

• Ability to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms for at least 7/8 of the normal work shift
• Ability to lift and carry, push, or pull up to 70 pounds
• Ability to stoop, crouch and reach
• Ability to talk or hear continuously
• Ability to see clearly to do all work-related tasks (clear or corrected vision at 20 inches or less)
• Finger dexterity is required frequently for over 7/8 of the normal work shift including operating a phone, computer/ electronic equipment, and tools

Work Environment:

• The majority of the position's functions are performed in the Okuma warehouse/ showroom.
• The employee works in an open warehouse area where temperatures may be subject to outdoor conditions in terms of cold and heat. There is exposure to various tools and equipment as well as forklift operations and corresponding noise levels.
• Works in an area around airborne water based cleaners, industrial solvents, and aerosol paints and will use standard PPE
• A small portion of the position's functions may be performed in the office environment with standard equipment and moderate noise levels (examples: computers, printers, fax, copiers, light traffic, and phone)

Special Requirements

• Maintain annual OSHA safety certifications as required by job duties
• Live within commutable distance to the corporate office

Qualifications

• High school diploma, vocational certificate or equivalent experience (1-3 yrs. mechanical experience)
• Strong mechanical ability, average mathematical ability and basic electrical skills
• Ability to interpret mechanical assembly and parts drawings
• Proficient use of electrical and mechanical devices such as, precision measuring equipment, multimeters, etc.
• Strong attention to detail and capable of solving product technical problems
• Must work well independently as well as on a team
• Basic computer skills including Microsoft Office

Preferred:

• Ability to operate forklift and crane
• Basic operation of manual machine shop equipment (lathe, grinder etc.)
• Machine maintenance or previous mechanical assembly/rebuilding experience
• Experience with Bill of Material (BOM) research
