Sign Language Interpreter Needed Near Gurnee, Illinois

Part-Time High School Opportunity

We are seeking a qualified and dedicated Sign Language Interpreter to support students in a high school setting near Gurnee, IL . This position provides the opportunity to work one-on-one with students while collaborating closely with teachers and special education staff to ensure equal access to education.

Position Details:

• Part-time schedule, 20 hours per week
• Monday-Friday
• Morning schedule: 8:00 AM - 12:00 PM
• 1:1 classroom interpreting support
• One student assigned per class
• High school setting
• Collaborative and supportive educational environment

Qualifications:

Candidates must possess one of the following:

• EIPA score of 3.5 or higher with Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) Approval
• EIPA score of 3.0-3.4 with ISBE Interim Approval
• BEI credential with ISBE Approval
• NIC credential with ISBE Approval

Preferred Experience:

• Previous school-based interpreting experience preferred
• Strong communication and collaboration skills
• Comfortable working in a classroom setting alongside teachers and support staff
• Ability to support students with varying educational and communication needs

Pay:

• $50.00-$55.00 per hour
• Weekly pay: $1,000-$1,100
• Compensation based on experience and qualifications

Responsibilities:

• Provide interpreting services throughout the instructional day
• Facilitate communication between students who are deaf or hard of hearing and teachers, peers, and school staff
• Support student participation in classroom instruction and school activities
• Collaborate with teachers, special education staff, and administrators
• Ensure students have equal access to educational content and opportunities
• Maintain professionalism and confidentiality in accordance with school and district policies
• Support student success in both academic and social environments

Behavioral needs are expected to be minimal and may vary by student. Candidates should be comfortable working within a classroom environment and partnering with educational teams to help students thrive.
