Senior Process Engineer

Position Summary We are seeking a self-driven, passionate Mechanical/Process Engineer to help deliver zero-carbon industrial heat and power through our novel solid-state thermal battery to work out of our location in San Jose, California. You’ll join a close-knit engineering team that values impact, humility, and collaboration, and that takes pride in building lasting relationships while tackling hard problems. In this role, you will play a central part in optimizing Antora’s balance of plant (BOP) systems for both cost and performance. You will develop, own, and continuously refine cost models that integrate data from a wide range of technical and commercial sources. These models will serve as a core, iterative tool to guide the design and evolution of cost-optimized, high-performance plant processes and mechanical and electrical architectures. You will also scope, define, and design BOP systems and equipment for Antora’s commercial thermal energy storage projects. As a key technical contributor within a fast-growing, cross-functional organization, your work will directly support the testing, deployment, and scaling of an innovative long-duration energy storage technology. Roles & Responsibilities Create and own models for equipment, system and plant costs; continuously update models as data is gathered from our constructed projects Perform engineering trade-off case studies that balance performance, cost, and schedule to drive architectural alignment via quick (spreadsheet) and thorough (model-based) approaches. Work hand-in-hand with other engineering teams (SW/controls, battery engineering, project execution, etc.) at Antora to develop the simplest, lowest-cost, highest performing BOP system Define and own system process requirements and specifications, including heat & mass balance (HMB), Process Flow Diagrams (PFD), and Process & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID). Review cross functional team designs (equipment specs, piping design, etc) to ensure they meet the process requirements. Participate in PHAs, HAZOP, and/or HAZID workshops. Key Qualifications Bachelors or equivalent in an engineering field (e.g. chemical, mechanical, process, industrial, etc.) and 8+ years’ experience in industrial applications engineering (oil & gas, chemicals, power plants, etc.) Experience designing or specifying industrial mechanical equipment such as: Pressure Vessels, Pumps, Heat Exchangers, Air Coolers, Fans, Tanks, Piping, Valves. Working knowledge of industrial mechanical design codes. ASME Section I and VIII, Div. 1, ASME B31.1 and B31.3, API 650, API 610, TEMA, ASTM. Working knowledge of electrical power distribution systems. Critical thinking and problem solving skills, ability to think about problems from a first-principles perspective Experience working independently, as well as work in a team-orientated and fast-paced startup-like environments Proven ability to lead and operate comfortably across many engineering disciplines (e.g. mechanical, electrical, thermal, fluids, optical, controls) Additional Qualifications Desired (Nice to have but not required) Deep engineering experience and intuition, ideally with background in: High-temperature thermal systems, Energy and power conversion, First principle engineering analyses Use of one or more of AutoCAD, Solidworks, COMSOL, ANSYS, Chemcad, Aspen EDR, HYSYS, HTRI Holds a PE in a related discipline Work Location: Onsite - San Jose, CA Salary Range: $104,000 USD - $155,000 USD Salary Basis: Annual Please note that the salary range listed above reflects Antora Energy's estimated pay for this position. The actual salary offered will be within the posted range and determined based on several factors including but not limited to a candidate's experiences, credentials and expertise, as they pertain to the position's requirements.
