About the Role

The Company is seeking a VP of Engineering to spearhead the development of its AI-first platform. This role is unique in that the successful candidate will lead a team of Principal Engineers, with a focus on hands-on technical leadership and no hierarchical structure. The VP of Engineering will be responsible for defining and owning the technical strategy and architecture of the AI platform, as well as for the hiring, leading, and development of a small, elite engineering team. The position demands a leader who can make critical decisions on system design, scalability, and the build vs. buy approach, and who can work closely with product and research stakeholders to bring complex ideas to life in production systems. The ideal candidate for the VP of Engineering role at the company will have a background in leading senior or principal engineers in high-performance teams, strong system design and architectural expertise, and experience in startup or high-autonomy environments. The role is particularly suited to individuals who are adept at balancing hands-on technical work with strategic leadership and who have a passion for building AI-first systems from the ground up. While not mandatory, experience in building products for scientific or research users is a plus.
