Aquatics Manager

An Aquatics Manager is responsible for directly overseeing the in-water operations of their school to ensure the safety and quality of our lessons. They are required to build relationships with their General Manager, Guest Services Manager, and staff while adhering to our core values and behaviors.

They work hand in hand with their fellow managers to attain a level of excellence in customer service, lesson quality, and team environment. Through meetings, in-store observations, hands-on leadership, and side-by-side education, an Aquatics Manager ensures the school is teaching the proper curriculum, providing excellent feedback, and seeing progress in students and Water Safety Instructor staff. They work with their District Aquatic Manager, Assistant Aquatic Manager and Deck Supervisors to ensure that our pool equipment and water is maintained properly and in accordance with state and county guidelines. They also work with their General Manager and Guest Services Manager; they maintain a high staff morale and positive relationships.

Responsibilities:

• Directly responsible for hiring, training, reviewing, and coaching aquatic staff
• Continuously provides positive and constructive feedback and staff evaluations; effective co-teaching
• Oversee all swim instructor schedules and communicate with the rest of the management teams any changes.
• Maintain online training, Deck super, and Water Safety Instructor training tools
• Oversee substitute instructors and resolve scheduling conflicts
• Anticipate and manage staffing needs
• Brainstorm with Guest Services Manager and General Manager to improve internal operational systems (schedule, plan, staff, building)
• Directly responsible for performance evaluations of all swim instructors
• Develop the next generation of excellent swim instructors, shift leads, desk supervisors and deck hands
• Schedule and run monthly in-services
• Conduct monthly Deck Supervisor/Deck Hand meetings/trainings
• Oversee swim club coaching staff to ensure they are using the curriculum properly and getting effective results for their students
• Coaching swim instructors to provide an exceptional experience for complimentary evaluations resulting in enrollment
• Ensure all management responsibilities are assigned and followed through on during management time off and assist as needed
• Follow and implement customer service guidelines to ensure an exceptional customer experience for every customer, every time.
• Ensure quality and progression of lessons are being taught by water safety instructors to keep students swimming throughout each level of program
• Communicate in a friendly and effective way with potential and existing customers
• Build relationships with families to create a family-friendly environment
• Respond to parents within 48 hours of any reported instructor performance concerns and keep accurate documentation
• Report unresolved aquatic complaints to General Manager
• Perform all daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly and yearly maintenance correctly
• Ensure pool is prepared for yearly health department inspections
• Clean all pool skimmers/drains
• Vacuum the pool and scrub/sanitize the pool deck according to schedule
• Clean the grates outside of the pool where the wet students exit following classes
• Clean pump equipment
• Adjust chemical flow equipment to ensure balance
• Clean build-up on various machinery and equipment to prevent future issues
• Scrub surfaces as necessary to maintain clean and operational equipment
• Communicate with General Manager any needs for supplies
• Come prepared and participate in weekly management meeting to recap previous week and set plans in motion for upcoming week
• Implement curriculum and teaching philosophies by teaching one shift per week
• Lead the aquatic staff in daily operations
• Ensure completion of daily/weekly pool checklist
• Manage swim instructor performance issues and instructor specific concerns
• Coordinate and manage pool operations- implementing local State/County Health Department standards
• Monitor deck supervisors and deck hands
• Review staff rolls prior to lessons starting
• Uphold the employee moral
• Monitor aquatic staff -90% attendance policy
• Plan and manage weekly staff evaluations
• Rotate Saturday and Sunday shifts with your Assistant Aquatic Manager
• Update spreadsheet tracking stock of all items required for pool operation
• Complete and submit weekly Aquatic Manager checklists in Hydroapps
• Work with your leadership team to ensure that they have all the tools and support needed in order to run all operations efficiently and effectively
• Assist in scheduling and running In-Water Skills Education
• Lead monthly aquatic in-service meetings
• Complete and submit monthly Aquatic Manager checklists in Hydroapps
• Work with other Aquatic Managers to plan staff outings when required
• Maintain stock of rash guards/t-shirts
• Ensure all new initiatives/processes/procedures are trained on and implemented correctly by all staff
• Work with your District Aquatic Manager to plan, staff and execute quarterly swim meets.

Qualifications:

• Strong leadership as a supervisor or manager experience overseeing a minimum of 5 people. Scheduling experience is also highly preferred.

• Create and deliver annual/semi annual reviews on instructors
